Job Description

Job Description

Overview of the Position

RestoringVision, a leading nonprofit dedicated to solving the global vision crisis through equitable access to vision screening and glasses, is seeking an experienced, hands-on, strategic leader to join our team as Vice President, Global Communications & Marketing. Reporting directly to the CEO and working in collaboration with other members of the global leadership team, the Vice President will play a critical role in shaping the design and execution of communications strategies to enhance the visibility, reach, and reputation of RestoringVision at a pivotal moment in our history.

About RestoringVision

RestoringVision is a global non-profit organization whose mission is to empower lives by restoring vision for millions of people in need. Our vision is to create a world where everyone who needs glasses has them. Our focus is on solving the global vision crisis by addressing presbyopia at scale for people living in poverty through innovative delivery models, evidence-building, and advocacy.

Today, 1 billion people have a vision impairment that is yet to be addressed. More than 80% of those have presbyopia - a naturally occurring, age-related eye condition - and only need a pair of reading glasses to regain clear sight. However, the vast majority (90%) live in places where they lack any access to vision services. Since our inception in 2003, together with our partners, we have reached over 28 million people across 150 countries with vision screenings and glasses. We are now on a path to significantly increase our impact by reaching 10 million people per year with vision screenings and scaling to 50 million people a year.

The impact of our work lies at the intersection of global health, education and economic development and contributes to the progress of many of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We play an active role in driving international advocacy and action to solve the global vision crisis. This includes high-level participation as members of the United Nations Friends of Vision Secretariat, the World Health Organization’s Global SPECS 2030 initiative, IAPB Refractive Error Advocacy Group, and the Coalition for Clear Vision Steering Committee.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a cohesive communications and marketing strategy that supports our mission and vision and aligns with our values of translating empathy into action, doing good with integrity, and being fiercely committed.
  • Develop and lead the communications and marketing team and build a high-performing function.
  • Develop and execute communications and marketing initiatives to enhance RestoringVision's visibility and reputation amongst our key stakeholders, including leading the creation of compelling content, including written materials, videos, and graphics, and effectively promoting RestoringVision’s impact, programs, and initiatives.
  • Build and manage RestoringVision's brand identity, ensuring consistency across all communication channels and materials.
  • Create press releases and op-eds, pitch stories to journalists, and cultivate relationships with media outlets, influencers, and other partners to secure press coverage and raise awareness of RestoringVision's work.
  • Oversee digital marketing initiatives, including website, social media, email marketing, and search engine optimization (SEO) to reach target audiences and drive engagement.
  • Become a knowledge source by creating and disseminating engaging content to position RestoringVision as a source of information for eye health, refractive error, presbyopia, and their interaction with broader global health and international development events and activities.
  • Collaborate with the Programs and Impact team to identify and share compelling stories from the field, highlighting the impact of RestoringVision's programs on individuals, communities, and countries. Utilize these stories to enhance communications materials, engage supporters, and build awareness of RestoringVision's mission and accomplishments.
  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy team to support fundraising by developing compelling communications and marketing strategies that elevate RestoringVision’s visibility as a sector leader, inspire donors, and reflect the impact of philanthropic efforts. Provide support with creating donor-facing collateral material for donor-specific conferences and events.
  • Lead internal communications efforts to ensure alignment and engagement across the organization, including staff and board members.
  • Develop and maintain a communications calendar and plans to successfully move all projects forward in a timely, collaborative, and efficient manner.
  • Develop and monitor marketing and communication metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in communications, marketing or related roles, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or management position in a global organization.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing and communication strategies, preferably in the non-profit sector or social impact space, with a strong emphasis on global communications/PR.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze global data, identify global trends, and make informed recommendations for global communication strategies.
  • Creative problem solver with a passion for social impact and improving the lives of others on a global scale.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and engage diverse global audiences.
  • Extensive experience in cultivating relationships with international media outlets, influencers, and partners to raise awareness and enhance visibility on a global scale.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing channels and platforms, including social media, email marketing, and website management, with a focus on international audience engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate cross-cultural communication dynamics and build and maintain relationships with external partners, stakeholders, and media contacts across different regions.
  • Ability to manage multiple global projects simultaneously, and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Experience working with international teams or in a global context is essential.
