We are seeking a(an) Lead Mental Health Technician for our team to ensure that we continue to provide all patients with high quality, efficient care. Did you get into our industry for these reasons? Job Summary and Qualifications

Provides supportive nursing care and administrative services to behavioral health patients on a designated unit in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. Participates in the multidisciplinary treatment team plan of care. Works collaboratively and acts as a role model for members of the health care team, maintains a safe environment, provides excellent customer service and provides non-medical patient and family education. Demonstrates competency to provide age appropriate, recovery, and trauma informed care to adult patients (18 and older, including geriatric patients age 55 years ). Provides milieu management and oversight of potentially violent patients.

Specific Functions:

1. Demonstrates expertise in recovery and trauma informed care, mental health promotion, and maintenance of high-quality comprehensive patient care

2. Displays respect for patient’s integrity, patient information and patient rights

3. Demonstrates expertise in the performance of tasks necessary to maintain a therapeutic milieu and optimum patient care

4. Works closely with the charge nurse, CNC, and BHU Manager to maintain and manage the milieu

5. Ensures tasks such as Q15 min checks, environmental rounds, educational groups, etc. are completed in a timely manner

6. Ensures group activities and the unit based schedule is followed

7. Acts as a mentor and preceptor for Mental Health Technicians

8. Participates in shift report

9. Assists in completing the Broset Violence Checklist

10. Maintains patient’s activities of daily living. Performs all specific skills assigned including personal hygiene such as bathing and keeping beds, clothing, and living areas clean, assists patients with meals, and assists with meals on unit according to procedure

11. Gives direct patient care to assigned patients in a complete and accurate manner

12. Assists patients with ambulation as necessary; observes approved safety procedures.

13. Demonstrates the ability to appropriately and safely use hospital and department specific equipment

14. Takes and records vital signs of patient’s general physical condition such as pulse, temperature, and respiration, to provide daily information to interdisciplinary team

15. Observes patients to detect behavior patterns and reports observations to nursing and medical staff.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • High School Graduate / GED
