RETS Associates, on behalf of our client, premier full service commercial real estate company, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project/Construction Accountant to join their dynamic team in Torrance, CA. The company has a proven track record in the commercial real estate space for over fifty years and enjoys a top-level reputation in the industry. As a Development Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and analysis for their development projects. Your expertise in accounting principles, financial management, and real estate development will be instrumental in supporting the company's growth and success.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Full cycle accounting for development projects.
  • Prepare monthly financial statement package including journal entries, job cost reports, and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely payments of periodic state and property taxes, according to jurisdiction.
  • Prepare monthly equity and loan draw requests, to be circulated to capital partners and lenders during the development period of the project.
  • Collaborate with project managers and the development team to maintain strict adherence to the reporting deadlines of capital partners and lenders.
  • Monitor cash balances in connection with monthly AP runs to ensure adequate funding.
  • Track vendor W-9’s for development projects; assist with annual 1099 filings.
  • Prepare regular book transfers within online banking between affiliated entities.
  • Interface with and provide required documentation to third party auditors
  • Maintain a clear and organized filing system.

CANDIDATE MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • 3-5 years as an Accountant in a development or commercial real estate company, including job cost experience.
  • Ability to focus on and meet monthly reporting deadlines.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confidence to interface regularly with a variety of outside stakeholders, including capital partners and lenders.
  • Demonstrated experience working with the company’s various accounting software platforms, including Sage, Yardi and MRI.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft office suite, including Intermediate to advanced Excel and Word skills.

COMPENSATION:

  • $110K - $120K base salary plus bonus DOE
