BASIC FUNCTION:

At RLWS, the main responsibilities of the Material Handler II include: issuing parts and materials to manufacturing folders, delivering them to multiple work centers and unplanned moving of parts or products to final stock locations. The employee supports timed routes for movement of product between buildings, along with replenishment of parts for various departments. The Material Handler continually looks for waste in material handling processes and makes changes to streamline the position. The employee also ensures that all operations are correctly counted, entered and transferred to the appropriate areas in a timely and efficient manner. The Material Handler must work as a part of a cross departmental team and be able to work flexible hours as needed. Other functions as deemed necessary by the supervisor. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR TASKS:

  • Operate equipment such as a pallet jack or cart
  • Operate forklift on certain occasions
  • Load or unload carts with parts as needed 
  • Utilize a computer for e-mail and the manufacturing program (M2K) 
  • Issue parts and materials to manufacturing folders 
  • Deliver parts and materials to various work centers as needed
  • Utilize an internal portal on the computer to prioritize tasks and moves
  • Move parts to final stock locations as needed 
  • Continually look for waste in the material handling process or wasted time (routes) throughout the buildings; bring suggestions to the supervisor
  • Ensuring correct part numbers and quantities is essential 
  • Work as part of a cross departmental team in a fast-paced environment 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Other functions as deemed necessary by supervisor 

Physical Demands and working conditions:

  • Continuous 1 foot action and frequent 2 foot action as well as sitting while driving various forklifts 
  • Continuous use of far vision and depth perception while driving a forklift 
  • Frequent use of near vision, reading and spatial perception while looking at part numbers, a computer or tablet, or placing parts in storage 
  • Frequent lifting of parts under 35 pounds
  • Frequent pushing of carts 
  • Frequent fine finger movements while using the computer or crane remote
  • Frequent handling and gripping of parts and tools
  • Occasional standing and walking while putting parts away
  • Occasional pulling of pallet jacks or carts 
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of parts under 50 pounds
  • Occasional reaching above and below shoulder 
  • Occasional bending/crouching and twisting while putting parts on lower shelves
  • Work environment is inside a manufacturing facility with seasonal temperature fluctuations, constant manufacturing noise and hazardous machinery, moving objects and dust. Work is performed independently but in a group. 
  • Forklift operation is a working condition for this position
  • Personal Protective Equipment required for the job includes: safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hat, gloves and hearing protection.

Minimum qualifications and prerequisites: 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Forklift/Equipment Operation a plus 
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Environment a plus

Skills

  • Good forklift operation skills
  • Some blueprint reading skills
  • Good basic math skills
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good number recognition skills
  • Good spatial recognition skills

Certificates, licenses, training, or other job-related requirements

  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
  • No current restrictions prohibiting lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
