Position Summary
The BioScience Research Collaborative (BRC) is thoughtfully designed to facilitate and encourage interactions among researchers. It is equipped for cutting-edge laboratory, theoretical and computational investigations, and features ten floors of research labs, centers, Rice classrooms and auditoriums. The custodian II (evening shift) in addition to performing the functions of a custodian I (cleaning, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and removing trash from restrooms, buildings, as well as cleaning and polishing furniture, chalk boards and walls), will perform the following duties: strip, scrub, buff, seal, wax and apply finishes to floors; and shampoo and extract carpets, and remove heavy trash. The custodian II will document services on a daily basis and customize with customers on a quarterly basis to obtain feedback and schedule work. This position has no supervisory duties.
The ideal candidate has experience working in a team environment. He/She should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks.
This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person from 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm, Monday through Friday at the BRC. Overtime may be mandatory based on the circumstances, or emergencies. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change. This role is classified as an essential position, requiring on-site presence to effectively carry out its vital functions.
This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with a hiring range of $15.72 to $16.50 an hour, contingent upon qualifications and experience. *Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.

This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. The incumbent in this position is expected to report to the BRC, provide the essential services designated and work under the overall direction of the Crisis Management Team for the duration of a campus emergency.
HEAVY – Exert up to 70 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Requires walking or standing up to 8 hours per day. Other physical requirements of the job include manual dexterity and the ability to see, hear, reach, climb, and balance.
Work environment: Primarily an indoor work environment in a variety of university settings, which may include offices, food serveries, and residential facilities. May be exposed to temperature extremes in facilities that are not climate controlled
Work hazards include exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals. Some work may occur at heightened elevations on ladders or scaffolding, or in wet areas.
