Position Summary:

The SAFE Office provides supportive services to students who have been impacted by interpersonal violence, as well as support for students who have been impacted by other forms of crimes, including but not limited to theft and assault. The SAFE Office also provides outreach to the Rice campus in order to provide education about interpersonal violence and healthy relationships with the goal of decreasing incidents of interpersonal violence. The SAFE Outreach Navigator of The SAFE Office will assist the associate director to coordinate the programming and outreach initiatives of the office as well as create and facilitate training related to violence prevention topics for staff, faculty, and students. They will also work one-on-one with students who have experienced relationship/sexual violence or stalking/been accused of these behaviors and provide case management to them, including providing information on reporting options and procedures, Title IX accommodations, referrals, and safety planning. 

Ideal Candidate Statement:

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge, education, and experience in the field of interpersonal violence, case management, and education and be comfortable acting as a leader to the other staff in the office and overseeing outreach efforts and projects. This person will need to be able to apply creative problem-solving skills and bring new perspectives and ideas in order to provide a holistic educational experience to our students. They will support collaboration and coordination efforts with multiple departments and community partners. They will be enthusiastic about working with students, empowering students to have autonomy and feel comfortable in crisis / highly emotional situations.
Workplace Requirements

This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person on Rice campus. The outreach navigator is responsible for setting a flexible schedule to address community needs, which includes some working days, in the evenings and weekends on campus. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: $48,000 - $50,000 annually, contingent upon qualifications and experience

Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1 years experience in in working with a college population, victims of interpersonal violence, or addressing public health issues of young adults

Skills: 

  • Knowledge of case management and education/community-level social services to a culturally diverse young adult population
  • Experience with outreach to communities, college campuses, or groups
  • Multicultural competence
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and judgment
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work flexible hours

Preferences:

  • Master's Degree in counseling, social work, public health, or another related field
  • Eligible for a Texas license in professional counseling or social work. LCDC, LPC, LCSW, or LMSW
  • Computer literate- especially PowerPoint, Excel, Work, Google Drive, and Zoom

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in creating and delivering interpersonal violence prevention outreach programming / community-level social services for Rice students, faculty, staff, and their families as needed, based on the current needs of the University
  • Assists with the creation and documentation of outreach activities 
  • Coordinates with other offices on campus to implement University-wide policies and practices that proactively impact undergraduate student relationships and safety
  • Provides education sessions / community-level social services to students in individual and/or group settings, including education in healthy relationships, consent, and relationship and sexual violence
  • Provides navigation services to students who have experienced or have been accused of interpersonal violence
  • Assists in providing case management for students whose interpersonal relationships and experiences indicate a need for assistance, identifying students’ needs and arranging for services, both on and off campus
  • Collaborate with community partners to host programs and educational workshops for Rice students, faculty and staff
  • Provides basic advice, guidance, case management, and information for students in distress due to relationship distress/interpersonal violence
  • Maintains case history records and prepares reports when necessary
  • Employee may be assigned or required to perform additional duties to the benefit of the department or University
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions

  • Participates in after-hours student meetings and campus events
  • Designs marketing strategies and graphic materials
  • Advises student organizations and student leaders
  • Provides student crisis management, as needed
  • Teaches the UNIV CTIS every fall, and the LPAP Critical Thinking in Sexuality both fall and spring semesters
