Job Description

Job Description
Richland Library is seeking to hire a Full-Time Development Specialist at our Main location.Sample Duties:
  • Manages all major information systems of the Development Office for fundraising and accounting purposes.
  • Manages the accurate recording of all private contributions, grants, bequests, pledges, stock/property donations, special event revenue, and other contributions in compliance with fundraising industry standards and as required by law to ensure a clean and consistent data system for fundraising, reporting, auditing, and donor stewardship activities.
  • Manages the donor acknowledgement system for providing timely and accurate acknowledgements of all donor support in compliance with fundraising industry standards and as required by law, including creating annual gift statements for designated donors to use for tax reporting purposes.
  • Manages the process for providing comprehensive, timely, and accurate constituent data lists to guide gift solicitation efforts, including direct mail campaigns, Literary Circle level ($500 ) annual support, major gifts ($5,000 ), online donations, and other constituent-related communications and activities.
  • Manages the payment portal system (Blackbaud Merchant Services) to ensure timely and accurate disbursement of funds generated through online giving.
  • Manages the process for collecting and analyzing donor metrics in order to support the strategic planning efforts of the Richland Library Friends and Foundation, including tracking annual donor growth, donor retention, and new donor acquisition rates, as needed to further their mission.
  • Employs constituent data analysis, data mining and reporting techniques, and other research/analysis tools to help determine and assess donor giving history and future prospective behaviors in an effort to deepen donor engagement and advance the work of the fundraising team.
  • Serves as prospect researcher and campaign coordinator for special fundraising campaigns of the Richland Library Friends and Foundation, coordinating management of prospects assigned to staff and Board leadership for the campaign, managing the day-to-day operations of the campaign, and providing timely and accurate campaign records and reports as needed.
  • Manages the Development Office’s use of the Library’s accounting software (Munis) to include preparing development-related reports and other information for annual financial audits and year-end financial reconciliations requested by the Finance Office, and initiating purchases and payments for goods and services.
  • Manages the Development Office’s donor recognition tracking system (RiseVision) using annual gift data collected from Raiser’s Edge.
  • Coordinates with the Development Director to prepare agendas, action items, Board packets, Board manuals, and other information needed to support the efforts of the Richland Library Friends and Foundation Board and its various committees, to include attending meetings and recording, preparing, and maintaining meeting minutes as needed.
  • Composes development-related messaging, including donor correspondence, reports, and other documents, and proofreads and edits letters and other documents composed by other department staff members to ensure accuracy and promote effectiveness.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality in all areas as appropriate.
  • Follows organizational, county, and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.
  • Attends and participates in committee, staff, and professional group meetings, including evening or weekend meetings; stays current on new trends and best practices.
  • Engages, encourages, and assists diverse customers of the Library in a welcoming, professional, and respectful manner; learns the Richland Library’s Customer Engagement Standards and consistently provides a high level of customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Assists with special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced experience in database management (preferably Raiser’s Edge), data-driven research and analysis, end-user training, and payment portal management.

Location, Salary & Hours:

Where: Richland Library Main, 1431 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC 29201

Salary: $1,612.50 bi-weekly plus excellent benefits.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week to include occasional evenings and/or weekends: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

Job Role & Level: P1; Pay Grade & Salary Band: 5; FLSA Status: Exempt

** Richland Library may change location and schedule of any library job.
