We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Assistant to join our team and support our financial operations.

Job Summary:

The Accounting Assistant/Manager will provide essential support to the accounting department by performing a variety of daily accounting, bookkeeping, and financial tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, leadership abilities, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of financial records, reports, and statements.

  • Perform daily bookkeeping tasks including data entry, recording transactions, and managing accounts payable and receivables.

  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure accuracy in financial records.

  • Process payroll, including calculating hours, verifying employee data, and preparing payroll reports.

  • Assist with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.

  • Prepare and process invoices, bills, and other financial documents.

  • Assist in the preparation of tax documents and other regulatory filings.

  • Respond to and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.

  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.

  • Maintain a well-organized filing system for financial records.

  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager.

  • Make collection calls to clients that are past due.

  • Review and process weekly billing for VA, Insurance, and all other clients.

  • Research VA rejections or short payments and resubmit as necessary.

  • Follow up with insurance companies to ensure we have all information for billing.

  • Processing of new hires documentation (Direct deposit, I9 etc. )

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

  • Proven experience as an accounting assistant, bookkeeper, or in a similar role.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks and Google Office Suite (particularly Google Sheets).

  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and procedures.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of non-medical home care industry practices and regulations is a plus.
