Job Description: As a member of the equity manager research team with, this position contributes to Russell Investments’ investment manager evaluation and portfolio management processes. The team is responsible for evaluating and ranking money managers and for advising on investment decisions made in internal funds and by Russell Investments’ institutional clients. The Research Analyst’s investment manager selection will have a direct impact on Russell Investments’ equity funds and multi-asset funds and on institutional consulting client portfolios. The role requires collaboration with colleagues both inside and outside of the Investment Division. The candidate is expected to have strong analytical and communication skills. Your Core Responsibilities: Analyze and support the ranking of equity manager products, including across investment styles (value, growth, etc.) and geographies, subject to peer review. Analysis will incorporate both quantitative analysis that leverages Russell Investments’ proprietary analytical tools and qualitative insights gained from interactions with investment teams. Develop agendas and conduct effective due diligence meetings with investment management firms as part of product reviews in pursuit of rank determination and investment recommendations. Provide timely, detailed, high-quality documentation of manager research analysis to communicate investment views to consulting clients and internal Russell Investments portfolio managers. Collaborate regularly with internal portfolio management teams on manager selection and portfolio positioning, including identifying emerging conditions/risks/opportunities within the equity market and potentially relevant investment products. Participate in peer-review discussions and provide constructive feedback regarding analysis produced by other members of the team. Contribute to Russell’s equity manager research initiatives both quantitatively and qualitatively, helping to improve manager research processes and outcomes across the organization. Cooperate on broader Investment Division initiatives that involve colleagues outside of the equity research teams. Contribute to Russell's client service, marketing, and/or public relations efforts including our quarterly ‘Active Manager Review’. Conduct onsite manager due diligence as necessary. Your Expertise: Bachelor's degree is required, programs in Business, Economics, Finance, or related fields are preferred. Advanced degrees such as an MBA or certifications such as a CFA charter are preferred. Preference for candidates with at least five years of relevant experience within the investment management or investment consulting industry. Experience as a portfolio analyst, investment consulting analyst, research associate, or research analyst may be applicable. Intellectual curiosity and critical thinking are paramount, the role requires an ability to make investment cases based on qualitative and quantitative factors. Excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly on investment topics. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage conflicting demands in a proactive manner. Knowledge of capital markets and investment instruments, especially equities. Knowledge of the use of statistics from the perspective of an investment professional. Demonstrated ability to adopt and use investment software and tools, including a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
