Principal Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead an engineering provider as company representative for an array of underground mining related projects from initiation through to execution.

Reporting to the Engineering Project Manager and working in a collaborative, supportive environment within the underground mining Integrated Skarns Project you will:

  • Oversee the scope for Order of Magnitude, Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, and Implementation stages of mechanical projects.
  • Provide guidance and technical leadership on mechanical safety, standards, design, installation and commissioning related matters for mechanical equipment on capital projects.
  • Provide the subject matter expertise for the complexities of executing mechanical projects in brownfield environments.
  • Have strong multidisciplinary awareness and understanding particularly in civil, structural, and piping fields.
  • Provide project governance and ensure company Project Management Framework is applied.
  • Review and assesses project timelines and cost, report on project resourcing to the Manager to ensure project delivery in a timely manner.
  • Implements, refines, and improves project delivery methods and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with standardized project processes, systems, and tools across projects.
  • Manage project vendors including performance against contract deliverables.
  • Provide detailed review and feedback on engineering deliverables.
  • Ensure effective stakeholder engagement across projects.
  • Monitor, manage and report all relevant project performance indicators to meet business requirements.
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation, and improvement.
  • Experience working on underground mining scopes either project or operations is highly desirable.
  • Experience with underground electrical, dewatering, crushing, material handling and ventilation systems is highly desirable.

What you’ll bring 

  • A strong commitment to the safety of yourself and the team. 
  • Deep knowledge and experience across Mechanical Engineering & Project Management.
  • Experience from an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project environment is desirable.
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering accreditation is desirable.
  • Ability to lead a team and influence key stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills to build credibility and support collaboration.
  • Ability to work in a global, multi-cultural organization.
