About RISE Prep Mayoral AcademyRISE Prep Mayoral Academy is a small network of college preparatory public charter schools located in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, where college preparation begins in kindergarten. Our flagship K-8 school opened its doors to our founding class of kindergarteners in August 2015, and that founding class will now become our founding class at our newly approved high school. Through a rigorous curriculum, highly structured learning environment, and character education, RISE Prep Mayoral Academy ensures that all Kindergarten through 12th grade students achieve the academic skills, content knowledge, and character required for success in college and a life of community engagement.
RISE Prep joins Rhode Island Mayoral Academies in establishing intentionally diverse schools that enroll from both urban and suburban communities. The School Nurse Position
RISE Prep Mayoral Academy knows that the health and safety of our scholars and our school community is paramount to learning. RISE Prep is hiring a full time school nurse teacher for the 2024-25 school year.
Qualifications
RISE Prep is committed to finding dedicated, hard-working educators for every position. We will consider candidates who:

• Embody RISE Prep Mayoral Academys mission, vision, and RISE values (Respect, Integrity, Self-Determination, Excellence)
• Believe in the urgency and importance of providing a safe, outstanding, college preparatory academic and character education to all scholars and have a whatever-it-takes attitude
• Have a minimum of 1 year experience as a school nurse (preferred, but not required?????????????)
• Bachelors Degree required
• Have a Rhode Island State School Nurse Teacher Certification or be able to acquire the certification on short notice
  Responsibilities for School Nurse
• Assumes a leadership role in promoting the health and safety of the RISE Prep Mayoral Academy scholars through skilled nursing care, health education, health counseling, advocacy, and accessing community resources
• Actively collaborates with families, teachers, administrators, and other members of the educational team in order to maximize the learning potential of scholars
• Assesses the health status of scholars and refers scholars and families to appropriate community and medical resources
• Conducts school programs of immunizations, physical examinations, and screenings as directed by the RI Department of Health and RI Department of Education
• Develops and coordinates safe and appropriate Individual Emergency Action Plans for students with special health care needs
• Assumes a leadership role in managing, directing and performing first aid and emergency care and care of scholars with chronic health conditions
• Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases and immunizations
• Adheres to all policies and procedures of the RI Department of Health Rules and Regulations for School Health Programs and RISE Prep Mayoral Academy Policies and Procedures
• Maintains up-to-date confidential cumulative health records on each scholar using the SNAP system
• Participates in teaching Health education for the improvement of health by teaching persons to become more informed health consumers and to assume greater responsibility for their own health
• Provides age-appropriate health counseling with the goal of responsible decision making
• Administers and/or supervises the administration of prescription medication to scholars
• Observes scholars on a regular basis to detect health needs and provides treatments as per standards and protocols using the Nursing Process
• Communication with families of scholars who are sick or injured throughout the day if warranted
• Morning attendance calls to ensure the health of all scholars who are absent that day
• Keeping track of inventory in Nursing Office, ensuring necessary supplies are in stock and if not, reaching out to the Director of Operations obtain supplies
• Check AED monthly to ensure it is working
• Contacting families over the summer to ensure all scholars are in compliance with immunizations/physicals before starting the first day of the school year
• Providing an annual inservice to all staff on bloodborne pathogens, epipens and more
• Covering other RISE Prep Mayoral Schools as needed
