River Market Community Co-op is hiring a Deli Manager!

Join the team at River Market Community Co-op, a community-owned grocery store located in downtown Stillwater and committed to supporting a sustainable local food system. As a cornerstone of locally and naturally produced foods for over four decades, we believe that exceptional customer service is crucial to our continued success. We are currently seeking a Deli Manager to oversee our production kitchen, made-to-order sandwich line, and meat and cheese departments. 

Experience-based pay ranging from:

$21.00 - $26.00 hourly

Reports to: Sales and Operations Manager

As our Deli Manager, you will select, price, and promote products in order to meet sales objectives, margin, and inventory. You will be responsible for department operations, morale, customer service, and the attainment of budget labor goals. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve internal and external customers accurately, politely and enthusiastically 
  • Treat people with dignity and respect; behave ethically and with integrity at all times and tolerate no less from others
  • Prepare food for fast casual dining experience
  • Select, price and promote products to meet sales objectives, margin and inventory turns
  • Responsible for effective menu engineering
  • Establish and maintains specific operational standards and ensures compliance
  • Ensure department areas (coolers, freezer, grab & go, baked goods, aisles, shelves, bins, prep, and storage areas) are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards and property goals
  • Comply with all safety standards
  • Communicate daily fixed and production assignments to staff in a prioritized fashion
  • Review financial performance metrics (sales, labor, margin), analyze and interpret data to identify opportunities to ensure targeted goals are met
  • Participate in setting sales and labor goals for department
  • Attend Management Team meetings
  • Make regular progress reports to General Manager
  • Supervise department staff
  • Ensure that qualified applicants are hired and trained in all areas, including: job functions, product knowledge, co-op principles, communication skills and customer service
  • Maintain communication with staff through regular daily shift meetings and department meetings
  • Schedule department staff and ensure hours worked do not exceed budget. Fill in for all uncovered shifts
  • Take disciplinary action as needed, following established policy
  • Emulate a communicative and caring culture by consistent goal-setting, re-directing, mentoring, praising and disciplining
  • Order products, manage inventory levels and verify deliveries 
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date shelf tags and PLU’s. Work with Pricing on new products, ensure price changes are entered promptly and accurately into the POS system
  • Calculate prices to meet margin goals
  • Plan and maintain attractive, fully stocked, rotated, and faced sections, including promotional areas and demos
  • Stock as time permits and give direction to leads, clerks, and assistant manager(s) when working in the department
  • Provide prompt, friendly, and courteous customer service and assistance with special orders

Work Environment: 

The work environment is this position is a kitchen-based setting. This employee must be able to work in close proximity to others and stay focused in the midst of frequent interruptions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Has or acquires ServSafe Manager food safety certification within 30 days of hire
  • Prior food service management experience (3 years preferred) i.e.: deli, catering, restaurant
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic including counting, addition and subtraction
  • Computer proficiency in: MS Office-Outlook, Excel, Word
  • Ability to work varied hours and days

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: Must be physically able to occasionally grasp, grip, pull, push, twist, and turn as needed. 

Constant (67-100%): Walking, standing, talking, hearing, correctable vision including near acuity and depth perception

Frequent (34-66%): Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds floor to waist, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds floor to waist

Occasional (1-33%): Working in refrigeration, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance floor to waist, lifting and reaching waist to shoulder, lifting and reaching above the shoulder

Approximately 25% of the time: Administrative duties and sitting
