SummaryThe Rehab Services Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) at Riverside Medical Center are committed to the provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate services in order to optimize individuals' ability to communicate and swallow, thereby improving quality of life. At Riverside, licensed s peech-language pathologists support and engage in science driven, evidence-based practice while providing care to customers. The licensed s peech-language pathologist provides screening, diagnostic evaluation and treatment services to patients exhibiting speech/language disorders (including cognition and voice) and/or swallowing disorders upon referral by a physician. The SLP reviews implementation of policies, procedures, and standards pertaining to the administration of speech pathology services within the Riverside Health System.
Experience/Education Requirements
  • M ust possess a Master's Degree with a Major in Speech Pathology.
License Or Certification Requirements
  • Must possess (or be eligible for) Illinois State Licensure for Speech/Language Pathology. Must possess (or be eligible for) the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Responsibilities
  • Attends continuing education events and conducts in-service programs upon course completion.
  • A ttends interdisciplinary conferences as appropriate.
  • C onfers with department head about policies and procedures relating to speech therapy.
  • D ocumentation matches charges upon chart auditing.
  • E nsures self and team compliance with dashboard and Quality Indicators.
  • E valuates swallowing using videofluoroscopic studies in Radiology with accompanying report
  • F unctions as a clinical instructor for student speech pathologists as scheduling allows.
  • F unctions as a responsible team member to ensure appropriate scheduling of patients and distribution of workload, both intra and extra departmentally.
  • M aintains timely and accurate documentation that meets all compliance standards and contains personalized patient education and plan of care.
  • M akes requisitions for major equipment and supplies and is responsible for the upkeep of this equipment as it relates to SLP services.
  • M eets the following productivity percentage on Outpatient, Acute and Rehab: less than or equal to 79.99 (NI), 80-81.99 (ME), 82-83.99 (M&SE), greater than 84 (CE).
  • P articipates in and coordinates the assessment of individual competencies for SLPs.
  • P articipates in community and departmental activities that promote rehabilitation and wellness.
  • P articipates in Quality Improvement efforts, e.g., Journal Club, inservices, Magnet, chart auditing, etc.
  • P rovides diagnostic and treatment services while maintaining high professional standards a n d evidenced-based practice.
  • P rovides information and suggestions for communication with patients to staff, family and other close care individuals
  • S creens, evaluates, and treats patients upon referral by a physician
  • W orks independently under general supervision and takes ownership of workload and volumes.
