PROGRAM DESIGN: Roads to Success (RTS) facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are. 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Development Manager plays a crucial role in driving the fundraising and outreach efforts of Roads to Success (RTS). Working closely with the CEO, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Marketing Communications Manager, the successful candidate will contribute to implementing the organization's comprehensive development plan, with a focus on diversifying and stabilizing the funding base through foundation, corporate, individual, and event support. This position requires strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a passion for empowering young people. 

ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:

Supervisor: Chief Administrative Officer

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week 

Compensation: $70,000-$80,000 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Strategic Fundraising Leadership: 

  • Develop and implement strategies to diversify and stabilize the funding base, aiming to contribute income growth to $2,824,118 by 2026. 

  • Collaborate with the CAO to engage the board in fundraising activities, providing guidance, resources, and support. 

  • Lead efforts to grow and engage individual donors, major gift campaigns, and institutional funders. 

Communications and Outreach: 

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Communications Manager to enhance donor communications, including newsletters, appeals, and acknowledgment letters. 

  • Contribute to the development of a strong case for support by articulating the programmatic efforts and impact of RTS for the donor community. 

  • Update the organization's website with compelling language and donor stories to enhance engagement and visibility. 

Event Planning and Execution: 

  • Lead the planning and execution of fundraising events, including cultivation events and the annual spring fundraiser. 

  • Coordinate outreach efforts, and donor engagement activities to ensure successful events. 

  • Develop event sponsorship opportunities and materials to attract corporate support. 

Board Engagement and Support: 

  • Activate the Board's Role in Fundraising Efforts: Provide support, materials, and training sessions to empower the Board in fundraising endeavors. 

  • Collaborate with Board Members: Work closely with Board members to identify fundraising opportunities, review prospect lists, and facilitate donor interactions. 

  • Manage Associate Board with Marketing and Communications Manager: Oversee the Associate Board's activities with the support of the Marketing and Communications Manager, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fundraising strategies. 

  • Contribute to Outreach Materials and Onboarding Documents: Assist in the development of outreach materials and onboarding documents for new Board members, ensuring they have the necessary resources to contribute effectively to fundraising efforts. 

Grant Writing: 

  • Develop comprehensive grant proposals in collaboration with program staff, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic priorities and funders' guidelines. 

  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other grant-making organizations. 

  • Craft compelling narratives and budgets that effectively communicate the organization's mission, programs, and impact to prospective funders. 

  • Manage the grant application process from inception to submission, coordinating inputs from relevant stakeholders and ensuring timely delivery. 

Grant Reports: 

  • Prepare timely and accurate grant reports for funders, highlighting program outcomes, financial accountability, and the utilization of funds. 

  • Collaborate with program staff to gather data and stories that demonstrate the effectiveness of funded initiatives. 

  • Maintain communication with funders throughout the reporting period, addressing any queries or requests for additional information promptly. 

Funder Visits: 

  • Cultivate relationships with existing funders through regular communication and stewardship activities, including site visits, meetings, and updates on programmatic developments. 

  • Coordinate and facilitate funder visits to the organization's facilities or program sites, providing opportunities for funders to witness firsthand the impact of their support. 

  • Prepare briefing materials and talking points for funder meetings, ensuring alignment with organizational messaging and fundraising priorities. 

  • Follow up with funders after visits to express appreciation and reinforce the value of their partnership with the organization. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • 3-5 years of non-profit fundraising and management experience, demonstrating consistent achievement of fundraising targets. 

  • Proven project and budget management skills for executing both large and small events. 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or communications. 

  • Strong leadership skills, capable of driving strategic initiatives and effectively engaging stakeholders. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a record of accomplishment of articulating organizational mission and impact effectively. 

  • Preferred experience in donor cultivation, stewardship, event planning, and board engagement. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including strong skills in Excel and workbook report creation, donor management software, and content management systems.

  • Experience in graphic design tools such as Adobe Canva for creating engaging graphics and materials is an advantage.
