Roanoke College is Hiring a Military Support and Recruitment Coordinator Near Salem, VA

As a miliary recruitment coordinator, this is an important role for attracting and enrolling veterans into academic programs. Utilizing a goal of at least 8 veteran students recruited, this position develops and implements recruitment strategies specifically tailored to veterans, assisting them throughout the admissions process, and ensuring they have the support and resources needed to succeed in their educational journey. This is a full-time, benefitted position with a one year appointment, with an option to renew annually based on the College’s goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive recruitment strategies to attract veterans. This includes identifying key target demographics, establishing partnerships with veteran organizations, attending military transition events, and leveraging digital marketing channels.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective veteran students, guiding them through the admissions process from initial inquiry to enrollment. Provide personalized counseling and support to address their unique needs and concerns.
  • Conduct outreach activities to engage with veteran communities both locally and nationally. Represent Roanoke College at military bases, veteran resource centers, and community events to promote our academic programs and support services.
  • Review applications from veteran applicants, ensuring all required documentation is submitted and processed in a timely manner. Collaborate with others to evaluate applicants' qualifications and make informed admissions decisions.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to ensure that veteran students have access to the resources and support services they need to thrive academically and personally. This includes assisting with GI Bill certification, connecting students with academic advising, and facilitating access to veteran-specific scholarships and financial aid.
  • Organize and participate in events, information sessions, and presentations aimed at prospective veteran students and their families. Deliver engaging presentations that highlight the unique benefits of attending Roanoke College as a veteran student.
  • Track recruitment metrics and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of veteran recruitment initiatives. Use insights gained to refine recruitment strategies and optimize outreach efforts.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Skills, And Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in admissions, recruitment, or student affairs, with a focus on working with veterans highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of military culture, veterans' benefits, and educational opportunities available to veterans.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work evenings and weekends.
