Behavior Liaison Temporary Part-time (30 Hours per week, ends June 11, 2025)

 

NATURE OF WORK

The main function of this role will be to support students who are struggling with behavioral issues and emotional disturbances in the regular education, special education, and/or alternative classroom/school setting. The Behavior Liaison (BL) helps establish and implement behavioral interventions and supports, monitor the effectiveness of these interventions and supports, and complete all local reporting requirements. The BL will work under the direction of the EC Director. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assists in behavioral and special education interventions, supports and program implementation.  
  • Assists in implementing behavioral services and supports and providing appropriate behavioral strategies and materials to meet the needs of students with at-risk behaviors and/or behavioral needs.  
  • Develops collaborative/consultative relationships with school-based administrators, general and special education service providers and parents.  
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts professional learning for school-based staff and other related service providers.
  • Coordinates school-based support, as requested, to include identifying and modeling effective behavioral interventions.  
  • Manages the work and assignment of behavior liaisons and behavior assistants, as appropriate, including providing them with ongoing training.  
  • Collaborates with other Special Education Department supervisory staff to ensure the provision of FAPE (Free, Appropriate Public Education).  
  • Coordinates the FBA/BIP (Functional Behavior Assessment/Behavior Intervention Plan) process with school-based teams.  
  • Keeps current with research related to effective behavioral interventions and strategies that support students at risk and students with disabilities who have social/emotional/behavioral needs.  
  • Maintains appropriate data regarding number of students serviced, placement of students, needs of students, parent involvement, needs of staff, etc.  
  • Monitors the implementation of behavioral intervention and support programs to assure consistency across schools, articulation among schools, and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.  
  • Communicates programming needs to the EC Director.  
  • Monitors special education procedures as related to behavioral supports and interventions to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Observes teachers and provides comments and recommendations regarding behavioral intervention practices.  
  • Assists teachers in improving their ability to effectively implement practices to manage students’ behavior
  •  Assists with grant-writing and reporting as needed.
