We are seeking a motivated and career minded individual to join our team. The Accountant position is responsible for completion of monthly bank reconciliation in accordance with the company deadlines and policies; review of campus-wide journal entries into the general ledger; preparation of account reconciliations and investigation of variances. The position will also be responsible for working with assigned departments to perform financial business activities in an environment of excellent customer service. The position will use accounting skills to perform financial support functions for the departments, provide departments with accurate and timely information to make decisions, and ensure efficient transaction processing.

Responsibilities

• Development, implementation and/or maintenance of one or more accounting systems

• Responsible for journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis in accordance with GAAP policies and procedures

• Support business processes and make recommendations in order to improve and support business systems and activities

• Understand the transactional flow through the various systems to monitor and ensure accurate financial results

• Solid understanding of ERP system including sub-modules

• May assist in the setup of processes and procedures that properly capture, track and report financial transactions

• May generate ad-hoc reports for internal and/or external use

• May interpret reports and records for managers/stakeholders

• May be involved in reviewing, tracking and maintaining information in the financial systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP accounting regulations

• Record journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts and identify opportunities for improvement to processes or format

• Learns business drivers and their effect on financial results

• Ensure accounting records, monthly accounting close activities, and variance analyses are adequately and properly prepared, maintained and explained in a timely manner

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus 3 years related experience or equivalency (two years of related work experience can be substituted for one year of education) required

• A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required

• Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description

• Proficient in computer software applications/demonstrated competence with Microsoft Excel and Word
