Job Description: K - 12 Special Education Academic Coach
Report To: School and District Administrators
Terms of Employment: 200 Day Contract, 7.5 Hour Day (30 minutes for lunch included)
Salary Schedule for Teachers
Job Goal: To increase student achievement through a teacher support coaching model that focuses on instructional best practices and appropriate curriculum implementation.
Qualifications: Professional Special Eduction Teacher License
Performance Responsibilities
  • Observe teachers and provide feedback on instructional practices
  • In a classroom setting with students, model instruction / co-teach a minimum of 2 times weekly
  • Provide support to teachers in their learning and application of new knowledge and instructional practices (one-on-one with individual teachers, through grade level meetings, and by modeling lessons)
  • Participate in ongoing instruction and intervention professional development to include local, state, and national opportunities
  • Develop professional development based on teacher need, student data indicators, and school initiatives
  • Provide ongoing instruction and intervention professional development to teachers by facilitating large-group learning sessions and by providing job-embedded support
  • Ensure reading models and frameworks are implemented with fidelity
  • Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum, and assessments
  • Assist teachers in implementing intervention programs with fidelity and with securing necessary materials
  • Monitor teacher documentation in RTI student data folders
  • Assist teachers in utilizing student data to differentiate instruction
  • Analyze data from universal screenings, progress monitoring, survey-level assessments, classroom data, and district/state testing to determine RTI placement and adjustments throughout the year
  • Create and maintain universal screening rosters, organize and oversee required screenings, and participate on the district assessment team as directed
  • Assist with direct and indirect fidelity checks
  • Submit reports as requested by school and district administrators
  • Collaborate with academic coaches and school / district administrators to ensure consistency in recommendations and support, meeting on a regular basis
  • Assume other related responsibilities as assigned by school and district administrators
  • Maintain a log of dates, times, and duties performed - submit each nine-weeks period to district administrators
Roles and Responsibilities
Roles and responsibilities will focus on the areas of instruction and intervention only. Administrative duties (i.e. cafeteria duty, student discipline, IEP team administrator, arrival/dismissal procedures) will not be allowable activities for this role. Participation in faculty meetings and teacher required professional development is expected.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's plan for evaluation of teachers.
Itinerant Position Specifics
  • Sign in and out of office daily, maintaining assigned schedule - notify supervisor and appropriate principal if schedule changes
  • Notify special education administrative assistant when taking sick, personal, or professional leave
  • Keep principal(s) notified of all plans / projects
