CLASSIFICATION TITLE: TEACHER

JOB SUMMARY

District Pays- 90% Insurance Premium (self and family)

Educators will work with an administrative team who encourage educators to plan fun, engaging, student centered lessons. Looking for a highly motivated teacher who incites a passion for learning. This position is responsible for providing high-quality educational instruction to students based on state standards. The educator is expected to create a safe, engaging, student centered learning environment grounded in clear behavioral, procedural, and instructional expectations. The teacher is responsible for meeting compliance standards in the educational, financial, and other operational laws and procedures established by the State of Tennessee Board of Education and Robertson County Board of Education.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following duties are essential job tasks of the position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Designs and implements appropriate instruction of subject assigned in accordance with students’ needs, District curriculum and state standards.
  • Plans daily lessons to meet the needs of all students and assists students needing additional support. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Supervises the safety and welfare of students and enforces district policies and rules governing students.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and homework assignments.
  • Assigns relevant homework and grades papers, assignments, and assessments promptly and accurately.
  • Administers tests to evaluate student progress, records results, and prepares progress reports and report cards to keep parents informed of student progress.
  • Conducts appropriate assessments of students’ work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades and IEP progress, if applicable.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and/or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators concerning the academic and behavioral progress of students through conferences, written messages, telephone calls and/or emails.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Performs administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
  • Completes required paperwork in timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Maintains student confidentiality and exhibits highly professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with District policies and all applicable state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, curriculum and instructional methods.
  • Professionally represents the school and District in interactions with parents, staff, students, and the community.
  • Maintains appropriate certification and training hours.
  • Attends work regularly and is punctual.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Using research-proven effective teaching strategies, the teacher provides instruction to varying group sizes and to individuals.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in professional development activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Carries out all reasonable instructions or extra assignments which are given by the principal before, after, and during the school day.
  • Completes all reports as required, including student evaluation, inventories, program evaluation, and lesson plans.
  • Attends faculty meetings, grade level/department meetings as required.
  • Administers standardized tests as may be required by the school, district, or State Department of Education.
  • Serves in various capacities at the school or the district level when required, such as School Improvement Plan committees, Writing Leader, Data Team member, Curricular Leader, etc.
  • Establishes a desirable example for pupils through professional conduct and appearance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience: Must possess Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from an accredited college or university.

Certificates and Licenses: Must possess valid Tennessee Teacher’s License with applicable endorsements and meet Highly Qualified status requirements under reauthorized ESEA.

Interpersonal Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to work well with others from diverse backgrounds and function as a productive member of a professional learning community and collaborative group. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Possesses ability to remain calm and control one’s emotions and work with other professionals and students.

Language Abilities: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common educational journals and legal documents. Ability to comprehend and respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents and students, school district personnel, other staff members or members of the community. Ability to research, if needed, and write lesson plans. Ability to effectively present information to IEP teams, other staff members, students, parents, and/or school districts.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and read and interpret various types of informational graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to use abstract reasoning, problem solving, planning, and analytical skills. Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in all work related situations. Must plan ahead for classroom activities or other school related events. Includes ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in the computer usage, including ability to use database software, internet, e-mail, word processing software and spreadsheets. Ability to type accurately and proficiently.

Other Abilities: Knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction and of the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of adolescent students. Possesses knowledge of effective positive behavior management methods and the ability to meet time lines and exercise good judgement while working in a dynamic environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical Ability: The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push and/or pull objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds) and must regularly lift, carry, push and/or pull objects up to 20 pounds. Employee must be able to stand and sit for 8 hours or more. Employee must walk, kneel, squat, stoop and bend on an occasional to frequent basis. Employee may occasionally work more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position. Employee must possess stamina to remain alert and energetic for 8 hours or more and be able to safely supervise students. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Dexterity of hands and fingers is required to manipulate specialized apparatus and to

operate audio-visual and educational training equipment.

Mental Ability: The employee must be able to remain alert and must possess the emotional stamina and personal stress management to maintain a positive approach with students, parents, and colleagues throughout the entire school day, including students with high energy and low impulse control. Employee must be able to control their emotions, handle stress, and appropriately handle stressful events created by hostile, confrontational students in accordance with professional standards of conduct.

Work Environment: Essential job functions are performed indoors and outside in a normal school environment with a noise level that is usually low to moderate and occasionally high. Employee may be exposed to blood borne pathogens.
