POSITION OVERVIEW

Opportunity to work within Robertson Stephens’ Investment Office team, including directly with the Chief Investment Officer, and partner with wealth managers on client investment portfolio construction and research. It is an excellent opportunity to work closely with and learn from industry professionals who have decades of experience investing in public and private markets at top-tier institutions. The Investment Office is a tightly-knit team which currently consists of four individuals. Because of the broad responsibilities and size of the team, the Investment Office Analyst would be able to learn about a wide variety of public asset classes and alternative strategies to assist in solving a diverse set of challenging investment problems. The role will be a full-time position in New York. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with other Investment Office and firmwide colleagues to source and complete in-depth due diligence of primarily public investment opportunities (mutual funds, ETFs, separately managed accounts, direct indexing solutions, etc) across asset classes and strategies. Responsibilities include conducting manager meetings, structuring due diligence activities, conducting reference calls, and preparing written reports summarizing the evaluation of the opportunity.
• Support team members in developing conviction on fund managers and markets through ongoing qualitative and quantitative research and analysis.
• Prepare written and quantitative research utilized by our wealth managers and clients to support investment decisions. This includes concise written commentaries summarizing meetings with fund managers, generating in-depth due diligence reports, creating visual charts to easily communicate findings, and other research.
• Utilize analytical frameworks and develop relevant analyses to assess public funds in terms of organization, investment strategy, performance, fund terms, current portfolio companies, and other key attributes.
• Help source new ideas and monitor existing managers by attending and participating in meetings with fund general partners and other senior personnel.
• Serve as a resource to firmwide colleagues seeking current information on investment opportunities, including data and analysis, comparisons across fund managers, and published investment office opinions.
• Prepare for and participate in firm-wide Investment Committee meetings where colleagues come together to discuss market considerations and investment opportunities.
• Conduct ongoing monitoring and reporting of manager performance and material updates using various databases including Morningstar.
• Serve as an informed, trusted resource to colleagues and clients. Analyst must stay informed about market trends, investment office model portfolio performance, underlying allocations and latest content to assist advisors in their client discussions.
• Create client portfolio proposals and presentations.

SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS

• BA/BS degree from top-tier university with a record for strong academic performance required; CFA preferred.
• 2 – 3 years of investment or market research knowledge and experience preferred. Prior experience may include working at a public asset management firm, OCIO, family office, large institutional buyside investor (such as a pension fund or endowment), fund-of-funds, or at a private equity investment firm.
• Familiar with public fund investments with prior due diligence experience preferred.
• Strong written and analytical skills for analysis and investment thesis development
• Experience communicating with internal and external audiences
• Possess flexibility and willingness to perform various ad-hoc assignments
• Commitment to accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of diligence.
• Experience working with Excel (VBA a plus), Word and Powerpoint
• Prefer experience with fund research and data providers (ie Morningstar)
• Demonstrated ability to learn other software applications
