Robyne's Nest is Hiring a House Parent Near Huntington, CA

Robyne’s Nest is seeking a compassionate and dedicated House Parent to mentor high school students. As House Parent you will be a dynamic, hands-on leader for our students promoting growth by teaching and modeling healthy habits of a good housemate, maintaining a safe and healthy living environment, helping develop essential life skills, empowering them to identify healthy life choices and develop positive decision-making skills necessary for success. As a Robyne’s Nest Houseparent, you manage a home of approximately 5 to 6 students within a similar age range. You assist with homework, oversee chores, and prepare meals. House parents create healthy bonds with the children through shared activities and work to create a family-like atmosphere in the home, caring for the needs of the whole child.

Responsibilities:
General Organization Services

  • Cultivate & maintain a healthy and strong working relationship with Robyne’s Nest Student Care Team.
  • Maintain confidentiality of organization operations, personnel, and client information.
  • Support existing organization mission, principles, and policies.

Client Services

  • Manage up to six Robyne’s Nest vetted students.
  • Promote the well-being and growth of the residents by modeling and encouraging healthy communication, sound decision-making, and upholding house policies. Be a reliable and consistent trusted adult by setting and maintaining key routines with students, such as supporting them with building self-responsibility, goal-setting abilities, time management and personal finance knowledge.
  • Provide positive life skills educational opportunities for personal growth: meal preparation with healthy available food for meals, laundry and cleaning skills, home maintenance or other needed tasks.
  • Maintain professionalism with residents, neighbors, community members, staff, and the public.
  • Reinforce program goals. Offer practical and emotional support to develop skills to make positive life changes.
  • Oversees all policies and procedures in collaboration with Executive Director and Student Care Coordinators. Working and staying within a monthly budget to provide meals, transportation, and activities for the residents.\

Supervision of housed students as follows:

  • Facilitate recreational activities, shared dinners, celebrations for milestones, etc.
  • Supervise students in the daily schedule: including chores, educational time, recreational time, and mealtimes.
  • Supervise morning activities: including wake up, school departure, and meal preparation.
  • Supervise evening activities: homework time, mealtime, phone time, free time, and bedtime prep.
  • Follow through with boundary setting and consequences.
  • Assure that house rules and procedures are always maintained.
  • Knowledge of safety and emergency procedures as outlined in organization emergency procedures manual and program manual.
  • Arranges and/or may transport students to school, appointments or activities.

Administrative and Additional Responsibilities

  • Acts as liaison with various partner organizations and corporations to assist in the scheduling and coordination of services.
  • Collaborate with fellow student care team members to assess the effectiveness of the program and to contribute to its ongoing improvement to address the evolving challenges students may encounter after graduation.
  • Maintain professional standards of performance, demeanor and appearance always.
  • Perform tasks and responsibilities in a complete and timely manner, complying with organization policies and standards.
  • Maintain a creative, team building, cooperative approach to job performance and seek to bring a constructive problem-solving orientation to all tasks.
  • Maintain an awareness of the organization’s mission and work to promote the positive individual and social change goals it embodies.
  • Exercise discretion and professional judgment always in keeping with the responsibility carried personally and by the organization for the care and welfare of students.
  • Actively strive to upgrade personal skills through engaging in appropriate professional learning experiences.
  • Responsible for household maintenance, including: maintaining a clean and safe house: including some light cleaning and organizing of workspaces; coordinating the arrangements for repairs and maintenance as instructed by the Executive Director.
  • Participate in daily client and weekly student reviews, weekly staff meetings, and other agency related meetings as directed by the Executive Director
  • Provide emergency coverage, when necessary
  • Provide Executive Director with a weekly progress report.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by Robyne’s Nest management.

Skills:

  • Experience living and/or working in youth residential settings.
  • Experience mentoring, teaching, or advising diverse youth from underserved settings.
  • Skilled in crisis intervention.
  • Skills and abilities to engage and develop rapport with children who have various backgrounds.
  • Skills and abilities to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions.
  • Skills to communicate effectively with the ability to evaluate problems, develop options and solutions, and implement interventions in a collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and delivering life skills training is required. Skill such as cooking, cleaning, etc. will need to be demonstrated.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills required, including conflict management, managing self-control, and the ability to inspire others.
  • High degree of organization skills and flexibility required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with versatility to communicate with youth and professional staff.
  • Good listening skills, and ability to listen without judgment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to be flexible working individually and as a member of a team.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Use good independent judgment and initiative.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy practice standards.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft and Google applications, internet, and social media.
  • Continue to work as an Essential Employee worker in times of community crisis and/or disaster emergencies.

Education, Licenses, and other Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Counseling, or other mental health related field from an accredited educational institution (preferred).
  • Availability to work non-traditional work hours to support programs.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license, clean driving record and evidence of vehicle insurance.
  • Maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (if not certified, willing to become).
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated successful experience (paid or volunteer) working with children from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Able and willing to work with students of either gender and any age group.
  • Ability to successfully complete an extensive clearance process including drug test, background and fingerprint checks.
  • Ability to meet the health and physical requirements of the position.

This position is an hourly position. The work environment will include time at Robyne’s Landing house, may include time in the office for staff meetings/training and will be time out and about with the students.

Position may require the ability to help move food, furniture, or equipment related to support of the students. Must be able to perform such physical activities as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), as well as time spent bending, standing, climbing or walking. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.This position reports directly to the Executive Director. After initial orientation and training to assure the house parent is proficient in the policies and practices of Robyne’s Nest, the expectation is that this position will work independently following established procedures. There will be regularly scheduled meetings with the Executive Director.
