Detailed Job Description
Summary:
Post-Doctoral positions serve in a temporary position that enables an individual with their Ph.D. to continue their training as a researcher and gain skills and experience that will prepare them for their research career in academia or elsewhere. As a postdoc, the position can perform mostly independent research, collaborate on a multi-scholar research initiative, or even may have lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger research project or program, all while under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher. Post docs disseminate and publish their research results in peer-reviewed journals, reports, meetings, workshops, and conferences. Post docs also train/teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.
We are interested in candidates working in relativistic magneto-hydrodynamics simulations of accretion disks around supermassive black hole mergers, and their jet dynamics. We are also interested to perform research in the areas of modeling and simulation of gravitational waves sources and their electromagnetic counterparts, including binary black holes and neutron stars, and their astrophysical interpretation in the context of the LIGO-Virgo observations.
Typical Functions*:

• Independently conduct research to include, but not limited to: constructing hypotheses, design and planning of research studies, data management, model development, conducting experiments or assessments, analysis and interpretation of research results, and evaluation of research techniques.
• Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders
• Disseminates and publishes research results in peer-reviewed journals, reports, meetings, workshops, and conferences.
• Assist in the writing of grant proposals.
• May assist in teaching classes.
• May mentor and assist undergraduate and/or graduate students
• May assist in managing research laboratories.

Specific Duties:
Code development

• Supercomputer simulation
• Papers, reports, allocations, grant writing
• OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Service to the Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation as requested by its director

Required Minimum Qualifications
Requires a minimum of a Ph. D in Physics/Astronomy or other related fieldsor equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline.

• Knowledge of publishing/reporting requirements.

• Critical eye towards consistency, reproducibility, and the scientific method in general

• Advocate for safety and ethics in the workplace
• Ability to communicate findings and effectively work with sponsors and stakeholders.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

• Numerical relativity and GRMHD simulations
• Code development in C, C languages
• Expertise in running simulations in large supercomputers
