Detailed Job Description
The Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing laboratory is seeking an individual to support the development of hardware systems aimed at the measurement and processing of observables related to remote sensing problems. The successful applicant will have experience with the development of embedded systems (e.g. STM32, Arduino, other microcomputers/processors), programming in Python and C/C for the control of these systems as well as data analysis/processing, communications protocols (e.g. UART, I2C, SPI, CAN), rapid prototyping of electronic devices/circuits (e.g. perfboard, breadboard designs), as well as data analysis and troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate for this position would have a working background in remote sensing, understand the radiometric considerations and the unique issues encountered from sUAS and satellite platforms, be adept at the collection and management of image data, and be able to develop sound experimental designs and collection campaigns. The ability to develop custom image processing and computer vision algorithms for the analysis of this data is highly desirable.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the supervision of students (undergraduate),
  • Design and fabricate hardware solutions to support, e.g., high-fidelity surface temperature measurements and development/modification of corresponding lab equipment,
  • Develop corresponding software to support hardware solutions,
  • Travel to install ground truth equipment to facilitate remote sensing related experiments
Department/College Description
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a specified field of science or engineering field OR an Associates Degree in a specified field of science or engineering and three years of related experience may be considered.
Skills:
  • Development of embedded systems,
  • Working knowledge of remote sensing concepts and willingness to enhance this knowledge,
  • Working knowledge of image processing software, e.g., Python, Matlab, IDL
  • Willingness to conduct field work
