    POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: Essential Duties and Requirement Details

    Position Summary:
    Under the direction of the elementary school principal, the assistant principal's primary responsibility is to improve instruction and provide sufficient time for curriculum and staff development. The assistant principal will also assist in the school's safety, organization, behavior, and educational guidance. In the absence of the principal, the assistant principal will assume the school's administrative leadership.
    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
    In coordination with the building principal, the assistant principal will:
    • Ensures the systematic improvement and evaluation of instructional and management programs that respond to student, school, community, and District needs.
    • In the absence of the principal the assistant will assume administration leadership responsibilities.
    • Contributes to an effective, comprehensive, District-wide integrated educational and student development program by directing the development and effective implementation of applicable program elements at the elementary level.
    • Supports data-driven decision-making by continually generating, analyzing, and acting upon data as evidence.
    • Provides a positive learning climate in the school by establishing, enforcing, and maintaining appropriate student behavior standards and guidelines.
    • Promotes parental and community involvement in school and District activities.
    • Develops and implements activities that encourage students to be life-long learners.
    • Assists in implementing research-based curriculum and instructional practices that ensure the development of rigorous, common core standards-based knowledge and skills, integrating literacy and technology, and leveraging data to improve instructional outcomes.
    • Provides planning leadership and direction to staff committees actively contributing to curriculum and school improvement plans and decisions.
    • Serves as a resource and assures effective development and operation of committees and the active participation of program staff.
    • Provides a positive learning climate in the school by establishing, enforcing, and maintaining appropriate student behavior standards and guidelines.
    • Assists in setting aggressive, transparent school, team, and individual goals and tracking the progress of achievement targets, school initiatives, and individuals.
    Continuous Learning:
    Assesses strengths and weaknesses; seeks feedback to improve performance; pursues training and development opportunities; strives to build knowledge and skills continuously; shares expertise with others.
    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Assists in recruiting, selecting, retaining, motivating, and developing high-performing leaders, teachers, and staff.
    • Directly supervises 30-40 staff members
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities per the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
    • Interviews, hires, and trains employees.
    • Assigns, directs work, evaluates performance, rewards, and disciplines employees.
    • Addresses complaints, analyzes issues, and resolves problems.
    Required Education:
    • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in School Administration
    • New Evaluator Approval through the state of Illinois.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
    Certifications and Licenses:
    • Current Illinois Type 75 Administrative certificate. Or General Administrative Endorsement
    • PEL Endorsement
    Required Experience:
    • Minimum of 4 years of successful teaching experience
    • Elementary administrative experience and expertise in student discipline, curriculum, assessment, and teacher professional development are strongly preferred.
    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Knowledge:
    • The employee must have a foundational knowledge of curricular standards and targets.
    • State of Illinois leadership standards
    • State of Illinois learning standards; best practices in teaching; and differentiated instruction;
    • Successful behavior management strategies.
    Ability to:
    • The employee shall be able to lead, plan, develop, implement, deliver, and evaluate the district’s curriculum and address identified deficiencies.
    • Maintain records and prepare reports
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing and engage in collaborative dialogue with peers.
    • Read a variety of materials, interpret, apply, and explain policies and procedures
    • Work effectively and cooperatively with all staff, parents, and community members.
    • Implement a student-centered approach to discipline, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
    • Demonstrates the ability to work in a multi-culturally diverse environment.
    Leadership:
    Exhibits confidence in self and others; inspires and motivates others to perform well; effectively influences actions and opinions of others; accepts feedback from others; gives appropriate recognition to others.
