Position Title: Faculty - Nursing
Department: Nursing (NRS)

Employee Status: Full-time (nine-month)

Supervision Exercised: Functional supervision may be exercised over tutors and/or part-time instructors. As a lead course instructor, mentoring of assigned clinical adjunct instructors is expected.
Job SummaryNursing faculty is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing program, its curriculum, and student learning. Nursing faculty teach assigned classes and perform related activities to classroom, lab, and clinical instruction. Nursing faculty are also involved in activities surrounding student success and collaborate with the Program Director in student-centered activities. Faculty are also expected to participate in ACEN accreditation activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.
  • Teach and assess student learning outcomes for nursing courses and program.
  • Meet class, lab, and clinical at assigned times.
  • Plan and supervise student clinical experience as assigned.
  • Facilitate clinical skill learning using human simulation and other modalities.
  • As lead course instructor, mentor clinical adjunct to ensure inner-rater reliability for student evaluation, providing guidance related to expectations of the course, skills, and evaluation process.
  • Plan and coordinate nursing skill instruction with lab faculty on course specific nursing skills: skills demonstrations and skills validations.
  • Plan course content and assign appropriate course work consistent with nursing program curriculum.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty for ongoing curriculum assessment, evaluation, and improvement.
  • Revise course outlines, objectives, and catalog information as needed, following college procedures.
  • Select appropriate texts and teaching materials in collaboration with program faculty.
  • Meet with students individually to facilitate learning needs and retention in assigned course.
  • Evaluate and advise students regarding clinical, lab, and classroom performance/progress, assigning grades according to college and nursing program policies.
  • Maintain accurate student records and submit to Program Director and College Records.
  • Maintain office hours convenient for students and as required by college policies.
  • Prepare course/class reports and assessment as required.
  • Complete course assessment and enter into the college’s database.
  • Attend and participate in conferences related to teaching area; membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended.
  • Provide input for budget requests.
  • Keep informed of current trends and development in the nursing profession and nursing education.
  • Stay current with technology in the classroom, lab, and clinical area.
Related Duties
  • Actively participate and contribute in accreditation activities.
  • Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities.
  • Attend monthly faculty meetings, college faculty development days, and graduation per contract.
  • Lead student advisory meetings on a rotating basis throughout academic year.
  • Assist in Tenure review committees for other divisional faculty members.
  • Facilitate student learning outside the classroom through participation in student activities, college & community events.
  • Participates in student nurse handbook review and provides input for revision.
  • Provides input for faculty and adjunct handbook revisions.
  • Participate in student recruitment activities.
  • Participate in program design, development, planning, and revision activities.
  • Maintain communication with peers and serves as a resource in area of clinical specialization.
  • Regular attendance is expected.
  • Work effectively in a team environment with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
  • Participate in short-term and long-term goals for the nursing program while supporting the mission of Rock Valley College.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Illinois.
  • A minimum of two years of current experience in clinical nursing practice in the acute care setting.
  • Satisfy the Essential Abilities Standards as outlined in health program policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in nursing education or evidence of potential for success in teaching.
  • Experience in ACEN accreditation.
  • Broad clinical nursing practice experience.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an active acute healthcare setting and classroom setting. Will be expected to be on your feet for 12-14 hours at a time during clinical.
