Description

Overview: Our Patient Accounts Department is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Coder to join our coding team. The Medical Coder plays a critical role in accurately assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to medical services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze medical records, documentation, and patient information to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS).
  • Ensure accurate code selection based on physician notes, lab results, and other relevant information.
  • Adhere to coding guidelines, regulations, and compliance standards (e.g., CMS, AMA, AHIMA) to minimize errors and optimize reimbursement.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, billing staff, and clinicians to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
  • Perform regular audits and quality checks to validate coding accuracy and completeness.
  • Stay updated on changes in coding rules, regulations, and industry trends to maintain coding proficiency.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Check and clear Payer and Clearing house rejections.
  • Fix, rebill and appeal own denials if needed.
  • Other duties assigned.

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS, RHIT) from a recognized coding program.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in medical coding in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS coding systems and medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with coding software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in code assignment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing practices and reimbursement processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
