ROCKFORD GASTROENTEROLOGY ASSOCIATES LTD is Hiring an Endoscopy Center Registered Nurse Near Rockford, IL

Description

Definition of Position:

Responsible for providing individualized and specialized nursing care in the Endoscopy Center with physician orders, utilizing the nursing process, legal aspects of current State of Illinois nurse practice, and the Endoscopy Center's policies and procedures. Demonstrates initiative insight and judgment in the decision-making process. Functions cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics. Seeks educational opportunities and accepts responsibilities for own professional growth and development. Participates with in-service opportunities and staff meetings.

We are looking for a registered nurse to work 3 days a week, 30 hours total (Full time with benefits!!) This position is Monday-Friday, 10 hour shifts between the hours of 6:30AM-5:30PM with a rotating day off each week. Enjoy a diverse workweek with rotation through multiple areas in the ambulatory surgery center. 

No nights, weekends and holidays!

8 paid holidays including the day after Thanksgiving!

Responsibilities:

Registered Nurses work in several areas in the Endoscopy Center: Prep, Procedures, and Recovery Room

Prep:

  • Vital sign monitoring and communication to physician all abnormal findings
  • Review patient history
  • Complete medication reconciliation 
  • Review allergies and allergic reaction
  • Ensures that informed consent has been completed and signed prior to administration of sedation
  • Documentation on all appropriate templates
  • CLIA waived testing and communication to physician all abnormal findings
  • IV insertion per RGA policy
  • RN to RN report between every patient
  • Review that all pre-procedure instructions were followed at home and communicates with physician any deviations
  • Delegates appropriate tasks to nursing assistants within their scope of practice. Monitors for completion of task.
  • Any other duties as assigned within their scope of practice

Procedures:

  • Vital sign monitoring and communication to physician all abnormal findings
  • EKG monitoring
  • Assist physician with interruptible tasks
  • Conscious sedation administration as instructed by physician
  • Monitoring patient condition and notify physician of any significant changes
  • Preparing pathology specimens
  • Abdominal pressure as directed by physician
  • Documentation patient’s progress to include condition, medication, and nursing intervention
  • Maintain knowledge of the care and handling of GI equipment
  • RN to RN report between every patient
  • Any other duties as assigned within their scope of practice

Recovery Room:

  • Vital sign monitoring and communication to physician of all abnormal findings
  • Assessment of patient post-procedure and notify physician of any significant changes in condition.
  • Validates and carries out orders on assigned patients
  • Initiates timely discharge of patient, ensuring that the patient has met all discharge criteria.
  • Use teaching strategies that meet individual patient needs for post-procedure care.
  • Delegates appropriate tasks to nursing assistants within their scope of practice. Monitors for completion of task.
  • Evaluates and documents the effectiveness of patient responses to nursing care, medications, treatments, procedures, and teaching.
  • Any other duties as assigned within their scope of practice

Guest Relations:

  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior in work setting; maintains good interpersonal relationships.
  • Actively participates in the Quality Assessment program.
  • Cooperates with other departments for coordinating patient care.
  • Precepts new employees.
  • Assists in implementing unit changes.
  • Adapts in changes in assignments and work load as necessitated by staffing changes and patient volumes.
  • Orients to charge nurse responsibilities and assumes responsibilities when necessary.
  •  Cooperates with Endoscopy Supervisor to assure adequate staffing.
  •  Keeps Endoscopy Supervisor informed of personnel problems

Time Management:

Manages assignment with maximum efficiency by:

  • Accurately setting priorities.
  •  Organizing work for maximum productivity.
  •  Delegating non-professional aspects of care to ancillary staff.
  •  Assisting colleagues to complete work.

Professional Performance:

  • Adheres to philosophy, policies, and procedures of organization. Supports organization's goals.
  • Maintains knowledge base by:
  •  Attending mandatory and regular in-services.
  •  Participating in scheduled drills.
  • Reading selected up-to-date nursing/medical literature.
  • Developing management or clinical skills through workshops and seminars.
  •  Serves on committees.
  •  Attends staff meetings and actively participates. Reads minutes of meetings that are not attended.
  •  Cooperates and participates in research department as needed.
  • Demonstrates respect and understanding of confidentiality for patients, staff, and others.
  • Participates in evaluation of safety and areas of risk for patient safety.
  • Participates in evaluation of nursing procedures and equipment by communicating to Endoscopy Supervisor.
  • Assumes responsibility to keep informed of scheduled work days, changes in the schedule, and arrives on time.
  • Makes required personal schedule changes through the appropriate channels

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current state license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Experience in GI endoscopy preferred
  • Membership in GI specialty or other local, state or national professional societies is encouraged
  • Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
  • Maintains ACLS certification

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to help lift, turn, roll, push, and pull equipment/patients for proper positioning during procedures and transportation from one area to the other as necessary

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of universal precautions and/or personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledgeable of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e., patient body fluids and disinfectant chemicals).
