Work Schedule:
- Services will be provided on a full time basis requiring 7 ½ hours per day for up to five days a week
- Based on school calendar of 200 working days per year
- Conduct with parent permission, an evaluation of gross, fine, and oral motor development, activities for daily living, perceptual and sensory integrative skills, visual motor skills, and work performance skills
- Conduct informal classroom observations with verbal recommendations regarding possible occupational therapy evaluation and treatment
- Provide written assessment reports based on evaluations
- Assist in the development and implementation of an individualized education plan (IEP) for each student receiving occupational therapy services, including annual goals and short-term objectives
- Provide assessments and recommendations for adaptive equipment
- Establish and coordinate occupational therapy schedule with other therapists and teachers, allowing flexibility for classroom structure plus travel, consultation, planning, and evaluation time
- Provide input on the student’s progress at the same interval that regular education parents are informed of their child’s progress
- Make recommendations for ordering supplies and equipment required for treatment, educational environment adaptations, positioning, and self-help skills
- Fit equipment as needed for individual students and train classroom staff in proper use of equipment
- Record daily and annual attendance and daily therapy notes
- Provide consultation to teachers and parents for suggestions, carryover use of adaptive equipment, appropriate exercises, activities and sensory strategies for both home and school
- Establish feeding programs as needed for classroom implementation and provide instruction to classroom staff
- Consult with physicians and other agencies concerning students receiving occupational therapy services
- Provide in service programs and develop remediation programs for both special education and at-risk regular education students
- Conduct review of available medical and educational records prior to service initiation
- Communicate with the Director of Special Education and building principles on matters pertinent to occupational therapy services
- Licensure as an Occupational Therapist practicing in Virginia
