Description

Rockhurst University is seeking qualified candidates to fill the full-time position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This 10-month position includes the oversight of all phases of sports medicine for intercollegiate programs and student-athletes, including the care, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Rockhurst University currently sponsors 23 men’s and women’s athletic programs. The University is an NCAA Division ll School and a member of the Great Lake’s Valley Conference (GLVC).

Job Description

  • Work closely with the Head Athletic Trainer and athletic training staff to ensure proper medical coverage for all of Rockhurst University athletics and student-athletes.
  • Perform administrative responsibilities such as; coordination of secondary insurance billing and inquiries, pre-participation physical documentation, emergency action planning and coordination, and liaison with third-party entities to enhance student-athlete mental health and diversity initiatives.
  • Assist in the operation of the athletic training facilities, as well as the direct medical care of all student-athletes, including aiding medical personnel with the prevention and treatment of athletic-related injuries incurred by student athletes.
  • Create and/or collaborate with team physicians on rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes.
  • Prepare and maintain various records, reports and information on injuries, treatments, etc. for insurance, legal or professional purposes.
  • Attend scheduled team practices and competitions, including but not limited to home and away events for sports as assigned.
  • Communicate with team physicians, and extended medical staff, to ensure proper evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured student athletes.
  • Communicate effectively with coaches/student-athletes regarding injuries and playing status.
  • Follow the NATA Code of Ethics. Remains current on all state and national requirements for license renewal.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as requested and assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field is required.
  • 1-3 Years of experience in athletic training.
  • NATA/BOC Certification, along with eligibility for state of Missouri medical trainer license.
  • First aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and AED certified.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and sports medicine standards of care, ability to apply NATA/BOC code of ethics to care, excellent organizational and supervisory skills, strong communication skills, and a strong commitment to professional growth, demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment, and experience working in a comprehensive sports medicine environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Health Care, Exercise Science, or related field.
  • Experience in an athletic training program at a collegiate institution.
