SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Legal Assistant will provide clerical support to all prosecutorial efforts of the County Attorney’s Office related to cases in an assigned area. Supports two or more attorneys’ heavy clerical workloads along with other varied tasks associated in a fast paced and dynamic office.

Example of duties

A DAY IN THE LIFE:
The Legal Assistant is a vital part of the team at the County Attorney’s Office and supports the team by providing clerical assistance in assigned areas. This could include subpoenaing witnesses, acting as a liaison for general scheduling purposes, filing, redacting, preparing, and mailing digital discoveries within the court mandated time frame, along with transcribing, drafting, filing, and mailing legal correspondences. The Legal Assistant is also responsible for running criminal record checks on defendants as needed. We require our Legal Assistants to attend the State Police Telecommunications System training within six months of hire.

Typical qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two years of formal secretarial education or experience.
  • Education or experience in the field of Criminal Justice, preferred.
  • Experience working with a legal database, preferred.
  • Must be highly skilled with Microsoft Office applications.
