SUMMARY

The Controller manages, controls, and performs the accounting and finance functions of Rocky Mountain Eye Center, Inc. (RMEC), Rocky Mountain Laser and Surgery Center, LLC (RMLS) and Pueblo Eye Associates, LLP.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads development of company-wide and departmental forecasts, budgets, strategic planning, and financial analysis for presentation to Executive Team and the Board of Directors.
  • Analysis to drive performance and decision-making, routine business updates to the Executive team, monthly expense, and margin analysis.
  • Establishes new processes and protocols to enhance the overall performance of the finance department.
  • Provides insights around line of business monthly performance key drivers.
  • Constantly assesses financial performance and institutes appropriate enhancements in consultation with providers and other managers.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations in revenue, payroll, A/P, and A/R.
  • Monitors cash disbursements and completes month-end closing tasks and reconciliation.
  • Prepares monthly financial information including physician productivity and income distribution reports, including financial and statistical reporting for internal and external purposes.
  • Develops and manages the bidding and procurement processes for each department.
  • Works cooperatively with other managers and directors to ensure comprehensive completion of all operational tasks.
  • Develops and manages effective internal controls, security, and compliance.
  • Develops and maintains up-to-date procedural manuals, as appropriate.
  • Maintains company retirement plan and leads 401K audits and calculations.
  • Approves all division/department expenses, payroll, refunds, and allocated expenses.
  • Oversees the reporting and due diligence functions of Unclaimed Property for RMEC, RMMP, and PSA.
  • Potential responsibility to oversee the coaching, evaluation, training, and development of all Finance staff.
  • Potential responsibility to conduct interviews, select hires, and supervise qualified candidates for all positions within department as needed; according to RMEC guidelines.

  • Contributes to the effective and efficient performance of the department for the practice.
  • Functions as a productive and positive member of the practice.
  • Conforms to all RMEC policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook including punctuality, attendance, and dress codes.
  • Achieves cooperation and teamwork through effective communications and positive relations with staff.
  • Adheres to the company code of conduct.

WORK QUALITIES

This position requires accuracy and thoroughness including excellent communication skills and an understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care. Must demonstrate attention to detail and documentation. Must have a good working knowledge of computerized accounting payroll and cash management. Must be even tempered, ethical, and good humored. Must interface with all RMEC departments, physicians, and personnel.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or finance preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive development in a finance/accounting environment.
  • Five or more years’ experience in budgetary control and cash management.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Country, and City codes as they relate to the accounting, taxation, and reporting functions of the various entities.
  • High proficiency and strategic working knowledge of government regulations, contract law, and compliance requirements pertaining to healthcare, business structure, and covenants.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office, GreatPlains, Sage, NextGen, ADP Workforce Now, and other software programs at a high level of reporting expertise.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel with the ability to work with and develop complex spreadsheets.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and a reliable vehicle.
  • Must be able to travel to other office locations as needed.
  • As part of our employment process, we will be conducting a criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, OIG check, and a drug screen.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to carry and lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to speak clearly in small group settings.
  • This position will require sitting for long periods of time, walking, standing, and bending, as well as using fine motor skills, such as finger dexterity for typing, and using small hand tools.
  • This position could be exposed to loud noises, frequent phone conversations, and requires average to above average visual acuity and hearing.
  • Most of this job will be spent indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
  • Must be available to travel to other office locations as needed.

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $100,000
