Controller

Rodman's Discount Gourmet is a family-owned grocery store and pharmacy with three locations in the Washington, D.C. region. It has been operating since 1955 and offers a diverse range of items, including gourmet foods, international specialties, wines, liquor and craft beers.

The management team has a multi-year plan to scale operations by modernizing back-office operations with new systems and processes that result in quicker financial book closing and real-time performance insights.

Rodman’s is seeking a skilled controller to join our finance team and contribute to our mission of exceptional service and operational excellence.

Job Summary:

The Controller will play a crucial role in the direction and administration of our financial operations, oversee budget-related preparation and review, manage vendor and accounting partnerships. You’ll lead a team of 3 who support AP and payroll as well as collaborate with other departments such as our buyers.

Additionally, you’ll be immediately overseeing the execution of a multi-year back-office modernization project, the financial reporting, and accounting operations of our grocery stores.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and accounting, experience with back-office automation and reporting tools, as well as the ability to proactively improve the department.

You’ll report directly to the President and owner of Rodman’s. Working hours are starting at 40-45 hours per week and are subject to change based on a needs basis at the discretion of the President of the company. November & December will require increased hours because of holiday traffic.

The range of salary for this position is $100,500-$150,500 based on experience. Bonus will be up to 7.5% of total salary after the first 12 month cycle.

Rodman’s offers a benefits program, which includes: vacation: 1-3 year(s) : 2 weeks vacation, Holiday: 40 hours/ year, Healthcare benefits, 401k.

Key Responsibilities:

· Work with leadership on ensuring the success of a multi-year back-office modernization project that includes the first phrase of implementing QuickBooks Online, AP automation tool (Ottimate), inventory management platform (BrData), and POS (NCR Encore).

· Lead the accounting department, including the processes adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.

· Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information, including preparing and presenting monthly financial statements and reports.

· Manage the processes for financial forecasting and budgets, overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting.

· Advise on long-term business and financial planning, including analyzing store performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.

· Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.

· Coordinate and lead the annual audit process with external auditors.

· Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

· Collaborate with department heads to support overall department goals and objectives.

· Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

· Oversee licensing and compliance related activities within the stores.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA preferred.

· Proven working experience as a Controller or similar role, with a minimum of 4 years of accounting and finance experience, preferably related to the retail or grocery sector.

· Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

· Experience with creating financial statements, general ledger functions, and the month-end/year-end close process.

· Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.

· Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

· Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
