Position: Designer - Lighting and Furniture

Location: New York, NY. On-site work requirement in office Monday – Friday

Compensation: Salary based on experience $60k - $95k

Job Functions: industrial design, product development or mechanical engineering

We are looking for someone with a high degree of technical skills in either product design or mechanical engineering (with a design background). It will be your job to assist the design team in all aspects of bringing new products to fruition. This will include heavy sketch ideation, working in Solidworks, creating soft and hard prototypes. We are a multi-disciplinary group consisting of mechanical engineers, electronics engineers, industrial designers and graphic designers. You will work closely with our internal design/sourcing group and report directly to the Director of Design.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with design, engineering, sourcing, production and sales in a collaborative on-demand manufacturing environment.
• Manage assigned projects, responsibilities, milestones and deadlines.
• Iterative prototypes using various media (foam, 3D printing, OTS parts, etc.)
• 2D spec drawings and 3D assemblies for handoff to production.
• Continuous improvement at all levels of the design process.
• Controlling quality. Roll & Hill makes high-end, decorative lighting fixtures and hardwood furniture. Quality is very important from development to delivery.

Requirements:

• Industrial design, product design or related degree.
• 2-8 years experience in product design/development. Experience in lighting/furniture will be given preference.
• High level Solidworks experience.
• High level Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign experience.
• Excel, Word, Numbers, Pages, Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
• Ability to both offer and accept clear feedback, to prioritize projects and task around fixed deadlines, and to execute ongoing updates quickly and seamlessly.
• Critical thinking, the ability to foresee problems and suggest multiple solutions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, with an eye for details.
• Excellent communication skills are a must, this is a team environment.
• Positive and professional attitude, with a willingness to learn.
• Ability to physically handle fragile objects, including glass, marble, and ceramics with care.
• Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to move and climb a ladder safely to occasionally install a lighting fixture on site.
