ROME Therapeutics is Hiring a Principal Research Associate, Biology Near Boston, MA

ROME Therapeutics is developing novel therapies for autoimmunity, cancer, neurodegeneration, and age-related diseases by deciphering the biological functions of the repeatome, which encompasses vast numbers of genetic elements encoded within the “dark genome”. With several drug targets identified and multiple discovery programs underway, ROME is moving rapidly to leverage this new frontier in biology. ROME Therapeutics is seeking a highly self-motivated and detail-oriented scientist with expertise in cell biology to join our growing team. Your responsibilities will be primarily lab-based, to design and conduct key experiments that will help advance ROME’s drug discovery programs. This will include assay development and mechanism-of-action studies in primary and iPSC-derived cell models. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of standard cell biological methods and proficiency in various in vitro techniques to support target validation and mechanism of action studies for various drug discovery programs. This position offers a unique opportunity to directly impact a growing portfolio in a fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Do
  • Utilize your expertise in cell biology and assay development to design, develop, and execute key experiments and assays in the laboratory.
  • Work collaboratively across functions to ensure delivery of robust data packages to project teams.
  • Collaborate with the research team to advance our understanding of target biology and support characterization of select drug candidates.
  • Regularly present research findings to an integrated project team and senior leadership.
What You’ll Bring
  • BS/MS in a scientific discipline or equivalent, with a minimum of 4-6 years of industry experience with BS, or 2-3 years with MS.
  • Self-motivated creative scientist with a strong can-do attitude.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, coupled with an eagerness to engage in a fast-paced setting that thrives on rigorous science and innovative ideas.
  • Pharmacologic assessment of both small molecules and other therapeutic modalities (including genetic delivery) in primary cellular systems required
  • Previous experience working with neuronal cell models is highly preferred.
  • Highly skilled in a wide range of molecular and cellular biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture, shRNA, immunoblots (Protein Simple Jess), qPCR, ELISA/HTRF, and CRISPR-based gene editing techniques.
  • Effective communication skills; comfortable working in a matrixed environment.
  • Proactive and resourceful problem solver.
  • Comfortable with early-stage biotech environment (VC funding, fast pace, exciting science).
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with a focus on trust, credibility, and mutual respect.
  • Asks questions, open to new ideas and embracing novel science.
  • Ability and willingness to be candid and genuine.
  • Proven track record of demonstrating functional expertise and following through on commitments.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid work environment as needed.
