This position will work onsite in our office in Miami, Florida. Position Summary / Job PurposeThe Lead, Maritime Security Operations is responsible for supporting and assisting the Manager with all shipboard and port security programs. This role involves providing guidance, training, and support to the shipboard teams on routine operational needs, regulatory and ISPS related requirements, and port terminal security matters, including administration of the security sections of the Safety Management System.
Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe major accountabilities include:
  • Lead and support the security program onboard RCG ships and in associated terminal facilities.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining ship security plans, equipment maintenance, turnaround reports, CCTV systems, locking plans, and all other security-related items.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, challenges, and solutions within the security operation.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with security organizations, vendors, consultants, and government authorities (e.g. FBI, CBP, Homeland Security, DEA, USCG).
  • Develop an annual training shipboard visit program to train the shipboard teams, coach newly promoted personnel, conduct compliance verification, and follow up on external/internal audit findings and corrective actions.
  • Review and edit the Security section of the Safety Management System, including developing, revising, and updating Ship Security Plans, policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Assist in developing shipboard security related training.
  • Liaise with the Human Resources Department to provide thorough reviews and recommendations regarding the hiring and assigning of shipboard security staff.
  • Lead and support the shipboard scheduling and disposition plan working with HR schedulers to ensure PAR levels are completed and a solid succession structure is in place.
  • Participate in the development of long-range planning and objectives in the area of Security.
  • Support and assist with the development, planning, and implementation of security systems during new build projects, including Ship Security Assessment and Ship Security Plan.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Global Security recruiting program for all onboard security positions.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Security, or equivalent experience, is required.
  • Preferred experience in the Aviation or Maritime industries.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, with a preference for experience in multicultural environments with all levels of employees and management.
  • A minimum of three years of maritime operational security-related experience is preferred. Counterterrorism tactical experience in the maritime/aviation industries is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in reporting, data management, and tracking software such as Excel, Smartsheet, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint is required.
  • Ability to diplomatically communicate with leadership, shipboard, and shore-side employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions to challenging issues.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-driven to continually improve and actively bridge gaps in knowledge to add more value to a particular project or setting.
  • Innovative and process-driven individual who thrives in a start-up atmosphere rather than maintaining an already built system.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strategic thinker.
  • Capable of working independently and within a team, regardless of the setting; must be self-driven and passionate.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities.
  • The position requires approximately 25% travel.
