Summary: The Mechanical Department is responsible for all maintenance and upkeep of the railroad’s fleet of 23 railcars as well as buildings/grounds. The Railcar & Facilities Lead Electrician will be responsible for maintaining the fleet to ensure electrical equipment availability and reliability metrics are met.

Essential Functions

· Works with Shop & Interior Foreman, perform regular & preventative maintenance of electrical components on railcars & facilities using blueprints, schematics, and location circuit plans.

· Works with 480v HEP Railcar power systems.

· Ensures that all signals, lights and other safety appliances used by employees for protection are properly displayed and used.

· Assists Diesel & Generator Mechanic with preventative maintenance related to our power generator cars.

· Maintains proper records (invoices, expense reports, preventative maintenance, etc).

· Understands and follows company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures

· Maintains clean work practices and understand the effects of dirt and debris

· Understands and adheres to our safety culture

· Demonstrates an excellent attitude, enjoys working in teams, and has a strong willingness to work with other Department Leads to complete shop and broader business goals

· Complies with company safety policies and procedures; must wear required personal protective equipment.

· Other duties as assigned by Shop & Interior Foreman.

Education/Minimum Requirements

· Master Electrician in the state of Colorado.

· Must have working knowledge of Railroad General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) or ability to learn from our in-house program and test same.

· Must have valid driver’s license.

Knowledge

· Applicants must be computer literate and have basic keyboarding skills

· Applicants must have the ability to effectively and accurately understand, interpret, reference, evaluate, organize, and record non-technical and technical information

· Applicants must be able and willing to understand and apply safety rules, practice safe work habits, identify safety risks, and avoid potentially risky behaviors and situations

· Applicants must have the ability to perform basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversion of fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions to solve practical problems

· In addition, applicants must be able to extract relevant information from tables, charts, graphs, and text

· Applicants must have the ability to communicate and work well both independently and with others

· Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States

· Applicants may have to qualify on a Physical Ability Test (PAT) prior to employment

Working Conditions/Essential Job Functions

· Physical duties involve occasionally climbing and maintaining balance on railcar steps and ladders to gain access to the roof; maintaining balance when (occasionally) walking on catwalks, running boards, uneven terrain, ballast, and roofs while making repairs. Must wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires.

· Work indoors in a shop environment, and frequently outdoors, regardless of weather conditions.

· Work with, on, and around moving or rotating heavy equipment.

· Work at heights of 18 feet or more above the ground occasionally.

· Work in confined spaces occasionally.

· Forty-hour workweeks that may include variable shifts, holidays, and weekends.
