We have offices in Northwood, New Hampshire, Chicago, IL and Northwest Indiana. Our talented team is growing, expanding our services and actively searching for a well-qualified, ambitious person to fill an open industrial hygienist role and grow with us.
As an Industrial Hygienist with RPF Environmental, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of workers in various industrial, commercial, educational and residential settings. Your primary responsibility will be to identify and assess workplace hazards, develop control measures, and implement strategies to minimize or eliminate potential risks. You will work closely with the RPF leadership team, employees, our clients, and other health and safety professionals to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
Industrial Hygienist Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive worksite evaluations to identify potential health hazards, including exposure to hazardous chemicals, noise, vibration, biological agents, and physical hazards.
Perform air sampling, noise monitoring, and other specialized tests to assess the level of exposure to different agents and determine compliance with regulatory (OSHA) requirements and recommended standards and guidelines (ACGIH, NIOSH).
Analyze and interpret data collected from monitoring activities and prepare detailed reports documenting findings and recommendations for corrective actions.
Develop and implement comprehensive industrial hygiene programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and industry best practices.
Collaborate with RPF management, our clients, and other safety professionals to design and implement effective engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards.
Provide training and educational programs to internal RPF and client employees and the public on various industrial hygiene topics. Trainings may be in person, or virtual in delivery.
Stay up-to-date with new regulations, industry trends, and advancements in industrial hygiene practices, and recommend appropriate changes to existing programs and practices.
Conduct incident investigations related to occupational illnesses or exposures and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Act as a resource and provide expert guidance to RPF management, employees and clients on matters related to industrial hygiene and occupational health.
Collaborate with regulatory agencies and participate in inspections and audits to ensure
compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Industrial Hygienist Required Skills
Strong knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, practices, and regulations.
Proficient in conducting hazard identification, exposure assessments, interpreting results and findings, and developing and implementing corrective actions and controls.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make sound recommendations.
Strong understanding of engineering controls and PPE selection and usage.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences in the form of training, and other verbal and written communications.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, able to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Proficient in using industrial hygiene equipment and software for data analysis and reporting.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and collaborate with stakeholders at all
levels.
Critical thinking skills are critical to analyze and discern the causes of different occupational risks.
Being physically fit is important. RPFs industrial hygienists spend a significant amount of their time moving and walking around workplaces, carrying equipment, identifying safety hazards and auditing implementation strategies.
Strong commitment to workplace health and safety and a passion for continuous improvement.
Ability to travel to various worksites as needed. Day and periodic overnight travel are required depending on the project and client. Overnight travel is scheduled with as much advance notice given as possible.
Proficient in using computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite and industrial hygiene
software for data analysis and reporting.
Strong understanding of risk assessment techniques and experience in developing risk mitigation strategies.
Experience in conducting training programs and delivering presentations on industrial hygiene topics.
Industrial Hygienist Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field. A masters degree is preferred.
Certifications such as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) are highly desirable.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in industrial hygiene or occupational health and safety.
In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, such as OSHA standards, ACGIH
guidelines, and local health and safety laws.
Asbestos licenses are highly desirable including: asbestos inspector, project monitor, air sampling professional, project designer, management planner. These licenses can be in the following states: New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York.
Work Location
This position is primarily located in Northwood, New Hampshire. A hybrid work environment is offered.
