Function

This position provides manufacturing, mechanical and maintenance support to one or more production lines within the Continuous Fire Detection Department.

The Mechanical Manufacturing Technician performs routine and repetitive assembly operations and processes and provides mentorship to department staff members.

The Mechanical Manufacturing Technician ensures that work is accomplished with high quality, in a timely fashion and is compliant with all company, city, state and federal regulations.

The Mechanical Manufacturing Technician also performs routine / required shift start-up maintenance functions such as, but not limited to, duties & responsibilities below and any other relevant tasks geared towards maintaining production levels.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Expected to perform all of the normal duties of a Mechanical Assembler, as well as the following on an occasional basis :
  • Performs minimal troubleshooting and calibration inspections.
  • Uses measuring and diagnostic tools to test and modify systems and components / assemblies within trained and approved responsibilities.
  • Utilizes mechanical or optical equipment, including computers.
  • Ensures systems and components / assemblies meet established specifications.
  • Diagnosis and repair of various mechanical and electromechanical systems and components / assemblies that do not require tools as needed.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly calibrated.
  • Perform preliminary review on non-conforming material.
  • Demonstrate proper use of electrical / mechanical measuring devices.
  • Accurately read and follow procedures, routing and other work instructions.
  • Demonstrates above average abilities in performing Technical Tasks.
  • Maintain materials, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Comply with all rules and regulations of Collins Aerospace, including, but not limited to : Environmental Health and Safety, Ethics, International Trade Compliance and Human Resources.
  • Complete assigned tasks, not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description in support of department objectives and to develop individual skills.
  • Check work methods and results for conformance to standards and re-instruct as required.
  • Report to supervisor on work progress and updates including conditions surrounding failures to meet quality standards.
  • Initial troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment and ability to change / exchange tanks such as helium, etc..
  • Any other relevant tasks geared towards maintaining production levels.

  • Ensure all products produced meet quality standards.
  • Responsible to comply with applicable elements of quality systems.
  • Meet customer deadlines.
  • Responsible for building parts that meet customer expectations.

Project Work

  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work to meet production schedules and quality requirements.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Acquire applicable skill / knowledge / certifications as required.
  • Understand end uses of products being built.
  • Comply with safety and hazardous waste disposal programs.
  • Good time management skills and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ensure all EH&S guidelines are communicated and followed.
  • Identify operational problems as they arise and communicate issues in a timely fashion.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must be a U.S. Person / Permanent Resident "Green Card" holder
