JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Senior Estimator

Location: 144 E. Rampart Street

Shelbyville, IN 46176

Job Objectives:

1. Estimate negotiated design/build and bid/spec construction services.

Job Functions – Essential:

1. Estimate negotiated design/build construction services.

- Work with salesman/project manager to value engineer and prepare a conceptual estimate.

- Fine tune estimate as project design is refined.

- Prepare a scope of work with project manager.

- Obtain subcontractor and supplier quotes.

- Prepare final fixed price proposal estimate, including take off and labor estimating of self performed items.

2. Estimate hard bid/spec construction services.

- Obtain and study plans and specifications.

- Attend pre-bid meetings as necessary.

- Visit site as necessary to determine existing conditions.

- Obtain subcontractor and supplier quotes.

- Take off and estimate self performed work.

- Prepare final estimate.

- Prepare bid proposal and list of exceptions if necessary.

Critical Skills:

- Well rounded conceptual, design build and bid spec estimating skills.

- Excellent reading and comprehension skills.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Understanding of field construction practices from division (1-16).

- Competence in earthwork take off.

- Competence in estimating self performed concrete, carpentry and steel erection.

- Excellent computer skills.

 Critical Experience:

- 3 years as an estimator.

- Familiarity with computer based estimating systems.

- Unit-hour construction estimating experience.
