Job Summary:
Assist in failure analysis, imaging and inspection of samples using optical microscopes or SEM, and general laboratory tasks. The work will be centered around failure analysis of brittle materials. This position is to support a team of materials engineers in improving the reliability and performance of our products, throughout the company. Typical tasks would include using lab equipment or microscopes to perform analysis of samples, performing strength tests, and simple characterizations such as material hardness. Training and detailed instruction will be provided for all specific tasks or measurements required.
Responsibilities:
- Failure analysis / fractography of brittle materials
- Imaging and measuring of test samples
- SEM imaging and composition characterization
- Mechanical testing using an Instron or similar test apparatus
- Simple disassembly of products as required for sample characterization
Required Skills:
- Fractography / failure analysis
- SEM experience
- Experience with optical microscopy
- Experience with laboratory characterization
- Comfortable having multiple assignments/tasks at all times
- Ability to record and report data cleanly to many engineers
- Excellent record keeping
Desired Skills:
- Preferred experience with Instron for materials testing
- Experience with any materials characterization techniques
