THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE is a charter member of Major League Baseball's National League. Since 1876, the team has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. Known for its ivy-covered outfield walls, hand-operated scoreboard and famous Marquee sign, iconic Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916, making it the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.
HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE The Environmental Sr. Coordinator will act as a support function to all operational departments within the campus to ensure a high standard of organization, communication, documentation, and procedural follow-through is occurring throughout baseball games and concert events. This position will be responsible for auditing existing processes as they relate to waste streams, training associates on new and existing procedures, and reporting relevant metrics to the Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety. The role will provide necessary support for program development as needed. This position will be required to work varying schedules to reflect business needs. THE DAY-TO-DAY:
Understand local and state regulations as they relate to the purchasing, storage, recycling, disposal, or regulated materials
Chemicals, gas cylinders, AED, and other medical devices, batteries, etc.
Support various compliance and best practice-driven programs for waste management (recycling, compositing, landfill)
Support operations activities, including construction, to evaluate environmental risk factors and assist with appropriate mitigation steps
Assist in the preparation and delivery of sustainable idea presentations to corporate partners
Assist in any other environmental-related tasks as defined by the Manager, Environmental Health and Safety
Maintain and update HAZCOM and MSDS files
Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 1926, 1910.1200
Facilitate environmental-related safety training as necessary
Develop processes and audits to follow to ensure compliance is being met
Encourage and promote environmental consciousness among employees
Communicate with operations departments on appropriate procedures
Communicates effectively with staff, Event Services and Levy Catering
Promotes teamwork and employee morale
Works with the health and safety coordinator to ensure compliance-related environmental training is done
Perform additional responsibilities as needed and as directed by management
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Individuals with an undergraduate degree in environmental health and safety, environmental science, sustainability or another relevant field or combination of equivalent experience
Demonstrated self-motivator and self-starter with a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn
Strong ability to function in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple projects, and adhere to deadlines
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
Comfortable working with internal and external parties
Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal, while open to coaching and feedback
Demonstrated exceptional time management skills and strong attention to detail
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
Ability to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed
Able to perform the following physical tasks: run, bend, squat, kneel, climb flights of stairs, walk on uneven ground, run up and down ramps, walk and stand for extended periods of time, assist patrons up and down stairs, lift and/or carry items weighing 15 to 60 pounds
