Construction Materials Laboratory Technician

S&ME seeks a full-time Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team in our Charlotte, North Carolina office.

Your Day-to-Day:

• Perform laboratory sample receipt and processing, compaction testing of soil and document the physical characteristics testing of soil and aggregate in compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and/or project specifications.
• Conduct compressive strength testing of soil, rock, concrete, and other cementitious material.
• Daily use of Metafield®, and/or other field and laboratory information management systems, for detailed recording of testing results.
• Calibration of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards to ensure accurate test results.
• Work collaboratively with a team of experienced engineers and technicians.

While the primary responsibilities of this position are performed in the laboratory, testing and observations on construction sites can be required, based on workload and project needs.

What You Bring:

• A High School diploma/GED
• Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing), using the English language
• Ability and willingness to prepare for and pass applicable certification examinations such as ACI Strength, NICET Soils, etc.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

• Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
• Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
