Job Description

Job Description

MILLWRIGHT/MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Do you naturally like to figure out how things work, and enjoy the challenge of finding a creative solution to mechanical problems? If you have strong technical skills, are able to read and understand plans and blueprints, and are comfortable using a range of equipment, this may be the position for you.

We are a small company, working in local manufacturing environments to move, assemble, install, fabricate, dismantle and maintain machinery and safety equipment, and, as necessary, repair or replace worn or broken parts. Our projects may take days or weeks, and you may be working independently or with other members of our team. We use a wide variety of hand and power tools, from squares and rules to hammers and wrenches, hoists, jacks, welding equipment, forklifts, and more. We work on industrial machinery, including assembly lines, pumps, valves, printing presses, conveyors. As needed, you may be asked to weld materials and/or fabricate equipment parts and guards. When troubleshooting, we work to identify the source of the problem, and solve the issue, which typically requires creative thinking to determine the most effective resolution. This is an opportunity to put your professional judgment and experience to good use, determining what equipment, techniques and approaches are the best options for completing your work. Throughout all these responsibilities, taking steps to ensure every job is done in a manner that is safe and completed according to workplace safety regulations, laws and requirements is a must.

To be successful in this role, you will need to work within precise limits of accuracy, follow instructions, read blueprints, use logical step-by-step procedures in work, and be proficient in using measuring and alignment devices. This job requires physical strength, as you may need to lift heavy objects, and physically manipulate objects with tools. You must be physically able to coordinate hand-eye movements, reach for, feel & adjust objects; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl (sometimes for long periods of time); climb and maintain body balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures, see and hear well (naturally, or with correction), and lift and carry heavy tools or objects weighing up to 75 pounds.

The range of responsibilities varies with each day, and with each project – no two days are alike. If you’re interested in expanding your mechanical skills through everyday experiences as part of a team, it would be great to hear from you.

REQUIREMENTS:

- High school diploma, or equivalent, at least 18 years of age, with MA driver’s license and own reliable transportation

- Forklift hoisting license, or willingness and ability to obtain a forklift hoisting operator’s license

- Minimum 5 years mechanical experience. Some hands on experience with steel fabrication, rigging, and the use of chain falls, cranes, hoisting equipment, and knowledge and application of safe rigging practices. Knowledge of arc, tig and mig welding along with torch and air arc cutting a plus.

- Good understanding of blueprints/schematic drawings to determine work procedures. Experience with hand tools, power tools, hoists, jacks, squares, rules, scales, dial indicators, micrometers, laser alignment machines, optical levels and plumb bobs. Electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic knowledge is a strong plus.

- Ability and willingness to perform tasks outside those specified here, to assist others as required.

- Physically able to complete job responsibilities, including lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs.

- Current knowledge of latest OSHA and industry safety measures preferred

- Background in industrial machinery mechanics or maintenance, and/or technical school education preferred

- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, and travel as needed

- Team player with good communication, organizational, and record keeping skills.

RATE: approximately $30/hour, adjusted based on knowledge and skill level
