The Safer Foundation is a social service provider to individuals with arrest and conviction records. Through a full range of services, including case management, educational instruction and advocacy, we focus on preparing individuals for the world of work by helping them find and keep productive and meaningful employment.

General Summary: The Center Supervisor is responsible for the management and administration of a community correctional center such that Safer's mission is being achieved and all contractual obligations are being met. The AVP is also accountable for coaching and developing all center employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure that staff and residents comply with Administrative Directives, Local Procedures, and Bulletins as they are disseminated
  2. Implement all IDOC requirements and special assignments and requests on time in accordance with law, regulation, standards.
  3. Provide management, leadership and direction to staff and residents with a high level of quality
  4. Serve as Duty Administrative Officer according to assigned schedule
  5. Fully comply with Safer Foundation Personnel Policies; Enhanced Performance Management System, Operating Philosophy and Code of Ethics
  6. Serve as member of Safer's Leadership Team

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of Reentry, with a specific emphasis on Community Corrections
  2. Knowledge Human and Criminal Behavior and the impact that it has in a residential setting
  3. Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws, procedures, bulletins and directives concerning the rights and responsibilities of individuals returning from prison
  4. Skill in writing and delivering statistical and narrative reports, memos and letters
  5. Skill in using word processing and email
  6. Ability to galvanize a team
  7. Ability to plan and prioritize one's own work and the work of others
  8. Ability to get work done through people

Education and Experience:

  • This position requires the equivalent of a college degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Psychology or a related field plus 5-10 years experience in Residential Management (Preferably in the Reentry arena).
  • An Advanced Degree in any of the related discipline is preferred, but not required.
The Position is properly performed when the following objectives have been met:
  • Participants in each center program have a significantly lower recidivism rate than that of the appropriate control population.
  • The community corrections program or facility:
    • Offers a comprehensive set of programs that meet the evolving needs of the population served.
    • Provides an appropriate level of custody and control.
    • Meets accrediting and contracting agency standards at all times, not only during audits and inspections.
    • Achieves its budget and financial plan.
  • Each resident of the center:
    • Has an individual performance contract in place (designed individually in order to maximize the success of his/her reentry into society) and is making satisfactory progress on that contract.
    • Encounters a seamless array of well-integrated programs, consistent information, respectful treatment, and a facility wide staff that is able to provide counsel and interventions.
    • Lives in a safe, secure, healthy environment.
    • All center staff model the behavior the center is trying to engender on the part of residents.
  • Longitudinal evaluation that accurately tracks outcomes to residents of various program interventions and techniques is conducted; an appropriate shorter term qualitative evaluation plan is in place for all significant programs; and evaluation results are effectively used to improve programs, develop new programs and eliminate the ineffective.
  • Center programs are state of the art.
  • Safer is an innovator in community corrections.
  • New program initiatives are created, developed, approved and implemented to meet the ever-changing needs of residents.
  • All center personnel are encouraged to contribute ideas for improvements.
  • All community corrections staff are operating according to Safer policies and standards and according to contractual requirements.
  • All staff members are functioning at a high performance level.
  • Each staff member clearly understands expectations at all times.

  • Communications: Communicates in a practical, positive, and supportive manner with supervisor, coworkers, clients, and others. Knowing when and where sharing information is appropriate. Records and Reports: Maintains accurate and useful documents in accord with applicable procedures. Prepares and, as necessary, presents reports that are accurate, complete, and within prescribed time frames.
  • Policy Adherence: Follows agency, departmental, and program policies.
