Controls and Data Engineer – Job Description

The position exists to serve as the control engineer for the cell assembly operations of Lithium-Ion cells. The job role is work with industrial equipment to extract data and improve existing equipment. Will act as bridge between maintenance, production, and engineering teams to ensure the developed process is repeatable, reproduceable, and robust for the operations team. Will create statements of work, modification, machine setup, create preventive maintenance recommendations, software improvements, trouble shooting, and manufacturing support.

You will support production and development activities by:

  • Develop SQL databases to log, analyze and display data to identify the best processes and parameters to meet our customer’s needs.
  • With minimal direction, engage effectively with a multi-disciplinary engineering team on new processes and equipment to meet our customer and internal needs.
  • Program custom test equipment used to test the cells at the end of production and develop SQL tables to monitor critical parameters.
  • Develop & support a SCADA system to directly log data from PLC and other machine controls. Work with the PLCs and other machine controls to directly log data real time during production to gather, report, and trend additional factors related to these processes.
  • Lead projects related to the implementation of automation and/or vision inspection.
  • Implement shopfloor data monitoring and SPC to continually monitor critical data, incorporating feedback from our highly skilled assembly technicians.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturers to introduce new equipment and processes.
  • Troubleshoot and improve control systems within existing equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting of multiple brands of PLCs.

Key responsibilities include -- but are not limited to:

  • Support project activities for our Aerospace, Defense and Racing customers.
  • Utilizing skills set for: PLC and controls, data collection, machine upgrades and start-ups, machine verifications, machine building, technical writing, problem solving, new process introduction, and continuous improvement.
  • Work on improve and modify equipment software such as PLC logic, HMI interfaces, Wonderware, Ignition, etc.
  • Prepare work instruction and work with operators and technicians in the preparation of development products.
  • With work industrialization and production process team for the implementation of new products into production and the implementation of new equipment.
  • Work with the Engineering team and Program Managers for production needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Research new best practices in the automated assembly and inspection.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related Discipline.
  • We prefer candidates with at least three to five years of work experience in a related field.
  • PLC and Ignition, Historian, SCADA, or other programming knowledge
  • SQL Database development, management, and analysis.
  • Understanding in SPC, capability analysis, and statistical analysis.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Should have highly competent organizational skills.
  • Must be a US citizen or Green Card Holder

Preferred Skills:

  • Ideal candidates will be self-starting, goal-oriented and project driven.
  • Experience with control systems, vision inspection, and other automation
  • In depth knowledge of automated visual inspection equipment is highly desirably.
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and testing
  • Strong aptitude and understanding of equipment functions.
  • Machine controls
  • SQL Database development, management, and analysis.
  • Use of inspection and measurement equipment
  • Understanding of mechanical & electrical drawings.
  • Six Sigma Methodologies (root cause analysis/problem solving).
  • Background in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement
  • Competent proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of configuration management.
