Description

The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) is the principal staff element of the Secretary of Defense in the exercise of policy development, planning, resource management, and program evaluation. The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness (ASD-R) is pivotal in ensuring our armed forces maintain a high level of readiness for all operations. The ASD-R Front Office is seeking a highly skilled Strategic Communications Specialist to lead strategic engagements, communications, and branding efforts that resonate with internal and external stakeholders.

As a Strategic Communications Specialist supporting the ASD-R Front Office, you will be the primary point of contact for strategic engagements, crafting communication strategies, and overseeing our branding initiatives. Your role is critical in shaping the narrative around military readiness and ensuring our messages are consistent, timely, and impactful. We are looking for an individual with a profound understanding of the military landscape and an ability to communicate complex information effectively. Location of work is Washington, DC.

As a Strategic Communications Specialist supporting the ASD-R Front Office, you will be the primary point of contact for strategic engagements, crafting communication strategies, and overseeing our branding initiatives.

Your role is critical in shaping the narrative around military readiness and ensuring our messages are consistent, timely, and impactful.

We are looking for an individual with a profound understanding of the military landscape and an ability to communicate complex information effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive strategic communications plans that support the ASD-R’s mission and objectives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all strategic engagements and communications initiatives within the ASD-R Front Office.
  • Craft compelling messages for a variety of platforms and audiences, including senior leadership, military personnel, and the public. ·
  • Coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies, adapting as needed to optimize impact.
  • Manage risk communication and provide strategic counsel to senior leaders on communication challenges.
  • Prepare briefing materials, speeches, and presentations for ASD-R leadership.
  • Uphold the highest level of confidentiality and discretion due to the sensitive nature of the work and location.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field and fifteen (15) years or more related experience or Masters and thirteen (13) years or more related experience.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in strategic communications, with a substantial portion within the Department of Defense (DoD) or military context.
  • In-depth understanding of military structures and operations, with a particular emphasis on Readiness.
  • Proven experience in leading strategic communication efforts, public engagements, and branding initiatives.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Clearance:

  • US citizenship required
  • Interim TS and ability to obtain TS/SCI

Desired:

  • Previous Pentagon or Military experience.
  • Previous Military Communications and operations.
Target salary range: $150,001 - $175,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. Customer site vaccination requirements must be followed when work is performed at a customer site.
