What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underwriter Trainee position at SAIF CORPORATION?
Job Description
On the surface, underwriting is a technical job—analyzing information, evaluating data to determine a business’ exposure and risk, making recommendations based on formulas and standards, and pricing policies appropriately.
Luckily, SAIF underwriters are much more human than machine. They make decisions based on numbers and data, yes, but they also consider the people and stories behind the data. They collaborate with their colleagues in marketing, billing, claims, premium audit, and safety services; build and maintain strong relationships with agents and customers; communicate decisions tactfully; and influence positive behavior in workplaces across Oregon.
SAIF underwriters play a key role in our mission to make workers’ comp coverage widely available and affordable. If that role interests you, apply today.
Note: This job requires that you live and work in the State of Oregon full-time, with travel to SAIF’s offices in Salem on an as-needed basis.
Recommended qualifications:
- Two years of experience working with business partners and external customers using collaborative problem solving, influencing, and negotiating skills are preferred, as is experience developing and analyzing information, making decisions, and communicating the decisions to internal and external parties.
- High school diploma or equivalent. An associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred. Completion of course work that leads to a chartered property casualty underwriter (CPCU) or comparable professional designation is preferred.
- Other combinations of skills and experience may be considered.
