SUMMARY:

The Certified Nursing Assistant performs nursing procedures and patient care tasks to the degree of training and as delegated by Practice Manager, practice physician(s), nurse practitioner(s), physician assistant(s) or nurse(s). Maintains efficient clinical operations, following Brown Urology’s electronic medical record (EMR) and workflow protocols.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consistently applies the Brown Urology’s values of patient care priority, dignity, collaboration, integrity and quality in support of our mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient care, research excellence and outstanding physician education. Responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the Brown Urology’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Consistently practices the Brown Urology’s Customer Service Standards.

  • Provides for patient's safety and best outcomes. This may include rooming patients, vital signs, assisting in procedures and exams, and discharging instructions.
  • New patient consults.
  • Chart preparation, electronic chart documentation, patient call backs.
  • Drawing up medications, medication safety.
  • Scheduling of appointments and answering in-coming calls
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the team. Act as a patient advocate and ensure patient safety and patient satisfaction.
  • Instills confidence in patients by maintaining a neat appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner. Maintain professionalism.
  • Shows dependability by being punctual; maintains consistent attendance.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients and co-workers.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Successful completion of nursing assistant course or the equivalent.
  • Previous hospital experience with acceptable references preferred. Urologic and/or surgical a plus.
  • Must complete 90-day orientation.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions necessary to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ability to read, speak and understand (both orally and in writing) English.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with patients, physicians, supervisors, and peers.
  • Ability to access or retrieve clinical information in EMR and scan in any pertinent information.
  • Strong working knowledge of medical terminology, computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft office software.

EXPERIENCE:

Prefer a minimum of one-year experience working in a Urology setting. Prefer experience with EMR software and medical scheduling software.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to raise to 25 pounds at times.

Conditions common to a clinical practice environment include potential exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations, and hazardous materials. Involves frequent contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Work is performed under general supervision, with some independent judgment exercised in determining priorities.
