Saint Joseph High School, owned and operated by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, is a private, Catholic all-boys college preparatory school looking for a talented individual to take on the role of full-time School Counselor for the 2024-2025 school year.

Responsibilities and duties include:

• Serves as the Counselor for an assigned group of students in grades 9-12 and provides both personal and group counseling;
• Assists with the Standardized Testing Program including Test Prep, test administration, the analysis of results, and the evaluation the program;
• Assists with Career and College Prep Programs;
• Coordinates Saint Joseph High School requirements for graduation, college admission requirements, and NCAA eligibility requirements for assigned group;
• Coordinates verification of athletic eligibility for students in consultation with the leadership and members of the Student Assessment Team;
• Assists the tutoring coordinator with identifying students in need of tutoring and/or pairing students with peer tutors;
• Assists with initiatives for student retention in assigned group;
• Ensures accommodations are provided for students with special needs;
• Assists students in assigned group with schedule changes, schedule conflicts, and course placement;
• Assists with special initiatives such as parent and student workshops and information sessions;
• Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, staff and community groups and organizations.
• Knowledge of Naviance and Common App.
• Providing classwide instruction to students in areas related to mental health, scholastic habits and skills, college planning, and other school counseling-related fields.
• Additional responsibilities or duties as assigned by the Director of Guidance.

Qualifications:

• Valid New Jersey School Counseling Certification.
• Experience counseling high school students, preferred.
• Strong background with the college application process, preferred.
• Experience with PowerSchool, preferred.
• Ability to work independently.
• Required Criminal History/Background check.
• Completion of Protecting God’s Children training upon hire.
