Position Introduction

Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional with a passion for financial stewardship and excellence? Saint Mary's College is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. As a Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of Saint Mary's College, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency in financial reporting and analysis.

Job Description 

The Senior Accountant is responsible for multiple accounting functions within the Business Office, will work extensively with fixed assets, the student accounts department, and the general ledger. The Senior Accountant will post the daily cash receipts, monthly GL review and reclass entries, and monthly capital and depreciation reconciliation and entries.

The Senior Accountant will monitor accounts to identify problems of expenditures or obligations of the College or department and funding agency/group and makes recommendations based on account review findings, and assists in the preparation of financial information related to accounts for specified periods. This position will apply basic principles of accounting to analyze accounts and operations to assure compliance with proper accounting procedures, applicable laws and regulations, in assigned area of responsibility.

The Senior Accountant will establish and maintains accounting records for assigned accounts, and aid departments and individuals in interpreting reports, accounting procedures, controls and in resolving associated problems. This position will reconcile records and accounts in assigned area of responsibility, and Prepares for approval and review, vouchers, journal entries, and fund transfers as well as provides information to substantiate individual transactions.

The Senior Accountant assists the Accounts Receivables Accountant and fill in when this person is on vacation or ill, and will other Business Office staff and assume other responsibilities when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience including journal entry and reconciliation work
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft office functions with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of Oracle Cloud

Preferred Qualifications 

  • General knowledge of fund accounting and fixed assets
  • General knowledge of computer accounting systems
  • Knowledge of Banner SCT 

Schedule

40 Hours/ 12 Months/ Monday – Friday
